Whislt driving along i now sometimes have the oil pressure warnig light and water temp warning lights come on. Always both together and on for a few minutes and then back off again.

Any idea what might cause this? I've still got oil pressure reading on the guage and water temp is in the middle.

Also my guage shows 0 oil pressure when the car is idealing is this normal?

Thanks
Mark

Got me a bit worried now, would have though 3 bar is quite high. is that when just idling too? what does everyone elses run at?

min values are - at 80 deg C

1500rpm - 1bar

3500rpm - 3 bar

Less than 1 bar, idling(5w/40). But gets quite close to 0 after thrashing the engine a bit.

it will if oil temps are over 100 deg, a good oil is vital if you thrash it and arent running an oil cooler.

my oil stays at 80 then upto 100 when thrashing it... not seen it go over yet. idle pressure under 1 bar.

I'll check mine out tommorow but it is always reading quite high....noticeably higher than my old williams.

my old engine did that... get your pump checked asap mate, mine did that and the guy that did the engine said thats usually a tell tale sign of pump on its way if it does it with all oils.

I've got an oil leak too which won't help. Just dropped it off at a renault specialist to have a good look at it. Hopefully it won't be too long before all is good agian.

Noticed earlier with the oil fairly cool about 60 degrees, there is a pressure reading at idle so it just must be when its at running temp that the pressure drops. :(

Thanks for everyones help

^ Thanks mate.

Think i've got two oil leaks so it might be an engine out job to make sure there both fixed so really if the oil pump is knackered too its the best time for it as it'll be easier to change. Thats me trying to stay positive anyway. hehe.

i would check the sensors 1st of all mate

the oil pressure sensor is fitted on the timing belt side near the sump - part number 7700843236 £94.02 + vat !!!!

Oil temp sensor 6001055056 £13.99 + vat - situated on l/h/s of oil filter

water temp sensor 7700810879 £13.99 + vat - situated in thermostat housing

fan cut in temp sensor 7700300334 £20.68 + vat - situated in thermostat housing

ALL BASED ON A WILLIAMS CLIO

cheers mate,

Can i just cheack them by taking a reading of resistance? Those prices are good for renault.

Fan ct in switch is fine that new low temp one from BB and cuts in fine.

Thanks again.

Mark, it only came on before the whole lot went tits up, but the pressure went from what I thought was normal (but it wasn't) to going ultra low... then it pretty much did the damage to the bottom end by that point... yours sounds more like a sensor issue tho from the description

cheers mate, after reading some of these replys i think my pressure might be lower than it should but its not utterly low. Hope it is just a sensor problem.

well depending on engine miles the grade of oil will certainly affect the pressure it runs at. my mates valver cooks the oil if it's 5w/40, but 10w/40 and thicker is fine. you may be best dropping the oil and putting some 10w/40 or 15/w40 depending on what miles are on the car.

Its a recon engine mate with about 300 miles on it. lol. Its currently on 10W-40.

Renault quotes that oil pressure should be 1.2bar at tickover and 3.5bar at 3000 rpm.

Had a renault specialist look at yesterday. To get rid of the two oil leaks with a guarantee i'm looking at about £470 + VAT. He also thinks the lights are on just because of knackered sensors. An think the oil pressur is just dropping when warm due to the leaks.

So hopefully it can all be sorted soon.
