When driving along i get quite a loud, deep humming sound

gets louder with speed and goes away when i turn right - i have to turn less at higher speeds for it to go away...

but I just got brand new bearings put in the OS hub today!!

what else could be causing this? its driving me mad!!

ah, the track rod end pin that goes thru the hub just snapped

I'm gonna guess it was that. :?

there was lateral play in the OS wheel (rocking it with hands at 3 and 9 oclock)

NS wheel seems fine...

bearings hum and driveshafts knock, you obv need to fix the track rod end so go from there

there was lateral play in the wheel due to the loose track rod end pin thing

I normally just rock the wheel horizontally, which was fine

pin snapped when i tried to tighten it. I'll get a new one tomorrow and see if that fixes it :)

Wheel bearing without a doubt. Right hand side. Is it coming from the front or rear? Also, just because you had a new bearing pressed in don't rule it out, they might not have pressed it in correctly which could cause it to fail, or hub nut wasn't done up tight enough, which also causes failure.

What can happen too, is the old bearing wears and then the hub will start spinning on the bearing, thus making play.
So if you put a new bearing in. The hub will be undersized so still have play.

i noticed it was very directional.

Turn it just a touch left, it goes away, push the feel about 1cm right and its constant there.

Check you dont have any play in the hub.
If it was worn in the first place then the new bearing wont help things.
Check nothings getting caught on the tyre in the arches?
