Ive had numerous rears and one set of fronts.

Always been very good.

Always been a spot on match for my orginal units. Still have a pair of fronts if your after some Lucas girling ones ?

so GSF do the calipers at half price if you bring back your old ones?

Swervin_Mervin

Yep.

drsmith1979
19-06-2007, 16:01
wooohooo

im presuming that you buy them at full price and then get the money discounted when you return calipers that are deemed to be in a 'reconditionable' state?

MAXIBOY
19-06-2007, 16:03
yep. or just take yours in when buying

drsmith1979

catch 22 maxi, i'll need my car to go and pick them up so unless its on a really flat piece of road i think i will need my old ones on the car lol

MAXIBOY

schakal
19-06-2007, 16:09
they are not half price .
each old caliper is worth 15quid
so you either take the old calipers back and pay
£70 for the 2 recons
or keep your old ones and pay 100quid or the 2 recons
every little helps though

drsmith1979
19-06-2007, 16:40
oh ok, the clio 16v ones are 53.50 +VAT, rears £62.5 +VAT

drsmith1979
19-06-2007, 16:42
lol ok so im now confused...

there are 4 different types of caliper listed, can anyone tell me which ones are suitable for my willy 3?

Who knows. Their website is turd. The Xsara rear calipers (which ar ethe same) are listed as £79.

The ones listed under clio: N is a citroen part. R is a Renault part. But both should have the same calipers.

where would be the best place to get reconned front and rear calipers from then if not GSF?

when a caliper gets re-conditioned all they do is replace the seals and give it a good clean up to make it look brand new.

i am not being funny but whats the source of this information ??

cause if thats the case i am just gonna refurb my own calipers
rather than paying gsf 70 odd quid for the privilige .

Hmmm. I looked at doing my own re-conditioning and was advised by a guy that did a stint in stockhatch to not bother. He's a right spanner monkey and he never managed to get them to work all that well.

Best thing he said he did was trade them at GSF for their own re-conned ones.

i work for a company called www.amkauto.co.uk ,dont rebuild them myself but i,ve replaced seal on my mates go-kart caliper ...cost £7

they supply rebuilt parts to most motorfactors in the uk (trade only)

you should be able to source a caliper seal kit from lucas no problem.

if anyone ever buys a re-con c.v joint...

all they do is replace the ballbearings with oversized one,s to compensate for the wear...shine it up , cost them pennies cost u £60 or so.

Basically they renew whats needed, if the piston looks shagged they replace it, if not they dont. New bleed nipple and seals good clean up, k'ching 50 quid profit

well i have allready stripped one of the calipers just for the fun of it
as the bleed nipple is snapped and i cant see a way of getting it out.
looking at the whole lot ,the seals are pretty easy to change providing you can get new ones ???

however there is one thing that concern me !!
using mole grips to take the piston out ,it chewed the
lip of the piston a little but no damage on the sliding piston surface .

if thats nothing to worry about can someone tell me
how to get the remains of the bleed nipple out please :)

katbloke
21-06-2007, 08:51
you could have probarbly protected the piston with some card and not lost much grip in the molegrips

using a stud extracter kit is your only hope of gettin the bleed nipple out yourself.
