Hi guys,

I have replaced the gasket at the downpipe manifold on the valver, and now the springs on the exhaust squeak like crazy. Its so embarasing driving it at low speeds as it sounds like the things going to fall apart.

Is there anything that will lubricate the springs, to stop them squeaking but wont be burnt off by the heat from the exhaust, I tried a small amount of WD40 which stopped the squeak but as I expected burnt off when the exhaust got up to temp, and didnt smell too nice either!

Cheers,

Darren

Shouldn't squeek at all mate, something must be wrong?

hmm its not leaking or anything, and the bolts and springs fitted back on the way they came off with ease. I cant think what would be wrong.

Unless its just actually the new gasket (the expensive one that looks like its made out of squashed wire wool) and it may go after it beds in a bit or something. :?

How weird? I've got the squashed wire looking one as well, just had to take the downpipe off to change the steering rack and I don't get any squeeking :S

Try some copper grease?

either copper grease or high temperature silicone lubricant

Try some copper grease?

yep put copper grease on when I refitted the gasket and it was ok for about a week, I'm guessing it has dried up or something now with the heat

either copper grease or high temperature silicone lubricant

Ill see if I can get hold of some of this high temp silicone lubricant, would a motor-factors stock it, or is it more specialist?

Many thanks guys.
