Pic request of piping and plumbing, my old block didnt have an oil cooler..
is it really neccessary?/
removable? by passable?
Valvers really suffer at high speed cruising because they have no oil cooler...when me and Danny were late going to York we had to slow because his oil temp was over 120 degrees after a 60 odd miles of 100-120mph driving. My williams was still on 105ish degrees C.

I'll try and get some pics for you.
Could always do you the parts needed to plumb it in.
Mat.
practically useless, thermal trasnfer area is very poor.
The quality of oil has more bearing on whats happening than the tiny heat exchanger.

think i'll fuk it off...lol
Is this oil cooler just located within the oil filter mounting plate?

If it hasnt got one already and you want to fit one, then go for an air-cooled cooler as opposed to water cooled. Far superior IMO.
much much better, but very different things. The one on as std is a heat exchanger, its not meant to cool the oil at all.
So is the standard cooler built into the block? i've heard before that a replacement air cooler can also cause problems as it is aimed at long drives so means it'll take longer to heat your oil. Heard that its only really needed if your always on long runs and curently have a problem.
Thats just what i've heard not my opinion.
standard one is built/plummed into the cooling system
oil cooler really is needed if you thrash it.
And most cooler assemblies can be bought with a built in thermostat so that oil doesnt pass through the cooler until it opens at circa 90 deg.
^^^
Thanks winston. Thought so but was worried for a minute that i might be missing it. lol.
yer martin, I remember that one well, also happened on track that time as well!
Didn't realise valvers didn't have the oil cooler fitted as standard but now that explains it, however now i've been changing the oil a lot it's been a lot better!
Danny
My 1.8 had one and so does u33db(BRUNS)....think it was early ones

Nick Hill said most / all Williams' will have one (although i think Mark said his hadnt), and some valvers will have them too.
yeah my valver doesnt have one, and the other night while out thrashing it with summy, i had to stop for 10 mins to let the engine cool down ;(
oil presure went to 0 ;( and that using the renault elf ST 10w 40, so planning on putting some fully synth in next oil change
Just put an oil cooler kit on.
For the price of 4 good synthetic oil changes you can have more stable oil temps and run longer drain intervals.

well i cant be arsed with the hassle of plumbing it all in... modern oil ccan usually handle heat... plus my valver never encroached 110 on the scale...

Since mine had a new rad and coolant flush etc, it rarely gets over 110 on the motorway whereas previously it would be hitting over 140.
If you are going the oil cooler route get yourself a Mocal kit for about 120 notes. They do them at Demon Tweeks and I think Nick Hill has plumbed a few in for people.

Wow, 140C. That's really high. Did the high engine temp. break anything?

<fingers crossed>
No.
if you thrash it properly, the oil temp WILL soar! lol
installation is easy.
anyone got pics of the oil cooler fitted..
mine is a phase 2 96 n will mine have a oil cooler?

Plumbing it all in...pish!!!
Take off plate between block and filter, 2 pipes to cooler, cooler...sorted, 30 minute job

Donnington....bring it!!
Haynes manual says F7P engines have an oil heat exchanger.
same here but were? is it
between oil filter and block.
wot the filter fits on the coller?
or next to it
any pics ?
wasnt aware that mine had one
ive just put Silkolene Pro S 5W-40 in mine and my temps have gone down quite nicely
my mate has a full can of that from when he had hi scooby ra .. he is selling it i got it of net from rochdale is dear stuff i think £35
good gear
Its not really a cooler, but a pathetic little heat exchanger. Between block and filter.
Not all of the clios have them, some do some dont.

Does anyone have a pic of this on the williams, been offered a brand new 12 row oil cooler, deisgned for a mini, but i guess they all do the same thing, for an absoloute bargin price.
Is that pic i posted the same sorta thing the williams has?
yes its the same as in the pic. fut an wir:liquid one mate.....much better. im fitting one this week before next dyno session
wir:liquid? :?
Its an air cooled one i can get cheap
lol sorry air:liquid....
i.e. wot u are on about!
Yeah thats what i was planning on fitting, works on the same principle as the radiator, no point in colling hot oil with hot coolant lol
how is it connected up? Where do you tap in to the existing heat exchanger to get an oil feed to the air cooler? and where does the return go?
I'm well up for getting one of these, but a thermostat would be useful also. Sounds complicated? :?
You get a sandwich plate, like in the piccy above that goes between teh filter and block and has an inbuilt thermostat.
If you have cololing as above, its a case, in the simplist terms to connecting those two pipes togther, for a better soloutiion you obvously remove as much of the pipes as you can before connecting them together
ahh ic! Makes sense i suppose! Where can the sandwich plates be bought from? Ive looked on ebay and demon tweeks for oil coolers, but need to find a sandwich plate thingy with a thermostat in it! :D
Deamon tweeks motorsport catalogue have them
Deamon tweeks motorsport catalogue have them
For a clio F7R or F7P? :? I couldnt see any! Just some universal ones!
Yeah universal ones....use them
