Just been to Halfrauds to get a champion oil filter (as it has the nut on it for easier fitting) to be told that it has been discontinued......

Lame!

Also the halfrauds own filter is a right fatty, try squeezing that thing in between the rad and the front of the engine!

Uber-lame!

Actually whats even more lame is how hard it is to get to the bloody oil filter anyway, bonkers french cars........

apparently halfords filter is better
than renault one .

good thing about the manual rack is
you can change the filter without removing stuff

what makes you say that?!

iirc its bigger and lets more oil flow

Bigger filters allows larger intervals between changes.

The small renault filter should be used no longer than 6k miles, ideally 4k or less at a time.

hmmm, may have to try squeezing in the fatty after all!

Shouldnt really need a filter with a nut on the end if you dont put it back on stupidly tight.
Normally easy enough to undo by hand if done yourself prior.
Deffo a renault one due to its size makes fitting and removing alot easier.

I am investing in some long oil filter pliers as I don't know what kind of arms/hands you guys have but mine are all scratched to hell from even attempting to undo the filter with the hands-on method!

I still find it easer to remove the slam pan a tip the rad forward.

I always used to use a FRAM filter - they have the nut welded to the end too

Ah....didn't know the fram one has the nut. My local motor spares shop does those. Cheers!

fram one doesn't have the nut on it any more and is quite large but I got the fat one in case i'm late with my oil change again next time....now I have to get another drain plug key as I thought it was an 8mm one and it is a square one instead :?

.k. all done now.
Wasn't too bad actually but it was a bit like the krypton factor as I was trying to find a way to squeeze the new fat oil filter in.
I found only one way that I could see to do it without having to take the slam panel off.
The nut on the old filter was useful in taking it off as it was quite stiff so I think I will end up sticking a screwdriver in the new nut-less one next time.
I didn't need any tools to put the new one on in the end.
Anyway, off to clean up the scratches on my hands and arms.......

did a filter change on my mates today, my arms are cut up pretty bad, ended up taking off the cross member so the rad had more play to get the old one out

Never understood the hassle. It's dead easy to do.

Of and having to change the oil more frequently ain't a bad thing.

I'm no beefcake but then I'm also no Winston.

I just find that if you lie under the car with your head outbeyond the front bumper you can get your arms up no trouble. I usually use a filter wrench to get it moving but after that it's all by hand.

I'm sure it will get easier with practice.

My next little mission is to modify my dogbone mount with tiger seal 8)
