Williams Power steering rack not available anymore!?!?

Hi chaps,

My firend works at a body shop and has a Williams 3 in. The chap has managed to hit something with the front wheel shattering it, this has pushed in the suspension. A new struts has been replaced with various other parts, a new front wheel, the bill is now at £3000!!

Mark has taken the car out for a drive and says the steering doesn't feel right. very heavy. The mechanic is suggesting that the steering rack needs to be replaced.

Now he phones up the Barnstaple Renault dealership and they said they do not have any steering racks in stock anywhere and that they have stopped making them. Is this correct??

dont kno if they stopped making them but you can always get the old rack re-built...also it,ll be alot cheaper than buying a new one fron reno.

Sure it isn't seized ball joint or something?

You can get racks off ECP GSF etc, or try asking for a valver rack that would fit.

Williams racks are not available anymore no.

Williams racks are wider obviously but IIRC you can fit a valver rack and williams track rods as there longer. Just means you don't have as much track rod screwed in but theres still more than enough.

Does it have to be a new rack then? PM Matbrown if not and see if he's got one or if it needs to be new get a used one refurbished.

I've just bought a manual rack to go in mine so could sell my PAS setup, if that's of any use? Off a very good condition car with FSH and has only covered 40-odd thousand miles. Was working perfectly. I have got the whole lot available, rack, column, pump, pipes, etc.
