View Full Version : The Matrix
Is the Haynes manual correct in saying to remove the heater matrix the complete dash board needs to be removed to remove the heater from the car and hence remove the matrix??

no but it needs lifting undoing and lifting up. then you can move the heater down and get the matrix out.
As maxiboy said, have to get the dash loose, move it back as best you can without snapping anything, especially wires etc, then you can wiggle the matrix out, you have to take wipers and scuttle off to get to two bolts holding in the blower assembly in, so you can move it back to get the pipes on the matrix through the bulkhead

 not sure where you got that mate, never even done one!
h/g and cambelt changes with engine in situ are my bread n butter! :P
id prefer the headgasket and cambelt change to a heater matrix, Not because it's easier, the matrix aint hard, just fiddly and annoying!
Engines are my thing lol
Same here - engines anyday - hate fiddly screws and fixings
Wel the new matrix is in and working. One of the plastic connection pipes had broken off. Not too much of a job as i thought it would be - just hope the heater gets nice and hot after all this. 8)
good work mate, now contrary to Gunner belief, how hard was it in the end as i feel i may have to do it one day?
No that bad - just a bit fiddly - took me about 4 hours. I can talk you through what i removed to get at it if you if you do yours. :D

For those that have done it - does your car smell funny when you've got the heaters on now? Like burning dust or summat?
I just assumed it's the new bits of metal/plastic etc that are getting cooked.

Haven't started the engine yet as i've got the column out at the mo and have just welded it up. Also waiting for a new clutch pedal to stop the play in the cable hopefully - but i'll let you know how it all goes 8)
