buy a renault one less than 20 quid i think. and yes. undo the gearbox end. unhook the inside bit. tie string to it pull it out. feed new one in hook around pedal. feed it straight down behind rack and route back to clutch arm.

As above...very very fidley and u have to be contortionist inside the car....but once u've done one...the nest is definately much quicker. Just make sure to use the old cable to pull the new one through the bulk head...electrical tape normally does the trick to hold them together.

I've done it myself on my valver and I am not mechanically minded.

As said above its a real fiddly SOB to do, but technically pretty easy.

You will need the car on a jack or two and probably take off the drivers side front wheel, getting access underneath the car is important as the hole the cable goes into is hard to find by hand.

Then, trying to get the cable over the pedal is the worst bit, if you have the time I would take the dash off or maybe the seat out, otherwise you cant see what you are doing.

Saying that, when my engine gets warm its hard for me to change gears, so I think I bodged something up.

Cost will be the cost of the cable so <£20

yes if it gets difficult to change gear when hot then its routed wrong or a non genuine part.

I bought mine from GFS, and i probably didnt route it correctly. didnt think it would so fussy.

cheaper cables are not as well insulated and the routing is critical

There didnt seem any clips or anything to help with the routing of the cable, I just tried to route it the way the other one was done. Haynes manual was rubbish as usual...

needs to go out and straight down behind the rack and along behind the rack along till the clips on the inner passenger wing.

I had no trouble atually attaching it at the pedal end. The twat was getting the inner sleeve through the fricking bulkhead.

In the end I didn't quite manage it (it's through on one side but the edge of the sleeve on the other side is up against the edge of the hole) but it works fine so it can get bent.
