Hi,

About a month ago I was putting some stuff in the boot of my Clio and one of the hinges snapped.

I cant really take a picture of it as it takes 2 people to close the damn thing now and the way the gas lift struts work it pushes the boot at an odd angle so I dont want to break the other hinge....I've drawn a diagram to help.

Typically the crap Haynes manual has absolutely NO reference to refitting/fixing this 'minor' piece of bodywork.

The hinge appears to have rusted away and snapped.

From what I can see it appears that it is one bolt that goes through the 2 hinges on the chassis and through the hinge on the boot door.

I have tried getting the bits of metal out, but being in the location it is its a bit of a pain, and they also dont seem to want to budge.

How the heck to you fix this?? Do I just try and remove the bit of metal inside the hinges or what?

Thanks for any advice.

Hope that makes more sense of what is broken (not my car BTW)

whip the boot lid off for starters. then i think its just a roll pin that will need drilling out and replacing.

Thanks, how do I get the other pin out on the hinge that is OK?

What kind of pin would I need to replace them?

the hinges unbolt from the car via bolts under covers in the roof lining. best bet is too find a damaged boot lid and remove the pins from that with the correct sized pin punch. ask mat brown of winston on here as the maybe able to supply them or the hinghes for you.
