Problem:

Was driving along one day when i lost the ability to change gear...stick would not move, suggesting clutch fault.

Engine off- can engage gears fine.
Engine on- cannot engage any gears...

whats been replaced in order to try and solve the problem::

CLUTCH
CLUTCH COVER
CLUTCH BEARING
CLUTCH ARM
CLUTCH PEDAL
CLUTCH CABLE
PIVOT ARM BUSH
GEARBOX

The problem remains....understandably im annoyed now! as I have changed virtually everything!!

Maybe youve covered this by "gearbox" but what about the linkage?

Is that fooked or anything obstructing it?

If the engine is on, and you push the clutch pedal in, will it select a gear?

I assume yes.

If so, perhaps a nackered differential collar in the box.

Would not explaine engaging gear when the engine is off.

im guessing the clutch kit etc is a new one? when pressing the clutch down is the level moving fully to allow the pressure plate to free the friction plate fully?

if its selecting the gears fine when engine is off then it still suggests clutch not operating correctly, btw you did fit the friction disc in the right way???

hehe that did certainly cross my mind.. rumour has it...that you cant fit it the wrong way..and if i did the cover splines would poke the other way

tbh ive not seen one fitted backwards on a clio like ours, but i have seen it done on other cars lol

but as said, it does 'sound' like the clutch is at fault even after a new one, unless you have missed something as you've put it back together?

btw in my first post i put level, it should be lever! ie clutch arm/fork

It could be the nylon knuckle that the arm sits on?

Check how much travel you have at the arm when you press the pedal.

this is odd. didn,t fit the plate backwards. you have changed the gearbox.

couldnt be anything daft like the rubber boot around the lever arm getting in the way and stopping it get full movement!

Dave

VIPERONE

dunno! lol swapped the clutch and swapped back to the box the clutch originally failed on.

Few teething problems...such as sometime when i turn the engine off i have to spend a while pressing the clutch to get it back in gear... im sure a spacer will sort this.. but it is working.. the car is fully stripped with 1 seat and is very quick indeed
