Clio - 161Bhp at the wheels
Astra - 271Bhp at the flywheel and 293lb/ft Stage 3 Courtenay Sport Tuned. From what I can make out, that includes a bigger turbo, another remap, front mounted intercooler, increased turbo pressure and fueling to match plus a few things I don't know? I think you may be shocked

I don't know who this nutter is

Impressive matey!!!
Goes nice your hybrid..... hoping craig can fettle with mine the same way soon. Bet his extra hp cost a fair bit mind lol
More of the same :D
right then. you need another 15bhp and you will have him again.
 he must of been gutted, thats one slow vauxhall!

Clio Lord- purveyor of the cheesiest commentary
good do that.
well in
just realised, my comment makes it sound like am sayin ur car is slow
what i was tryin to say is damn that thing is slow for 300bhp :P
Sound bunch of friends you have :) Looked like you did not have a good start off the line as well. Traction control must have messed up most of his power/torque delivery. Now, dare him to do the same again without TC

Nice video, your clio doesnt hang around. Seems odd though that they are so close with such a large power difference, maybe his lexus lights were slowing him down.

TC was switched off lol it has an automatic override aswell, vauxhall shat

To be fair, he got you at 112mph. But with that sort of power/torque difference, I have to agree with you. And there wasn't even any corners yet. Good show :)
Nice one :)
110ish definitely seems about the speed a Clio runs outta puff compared to more powerful cars. Perhaps that's the speed when power starts counting and weight doesn't...
I think you would have him at pod, which is good because you can make him look like a tit

Loving the sound effects
I'd still class that as a victory for the clio personally - christ thats over 100bhp more and still doesn't do anything great!

He did a count down 3,2,1 go and launched on 1 lol so i ended up pulling away at 1,000rpm plus it was uphill until 80-90 (if you look at the start of the video). He seemed happy, but deep down, you know he was abit upset

GREAT VID BUT HAS ANYONE NOTICED THE CLIO BHP IS AT WHEELS AND THE ASTRA IS AT FLYWHEEL! SO THE ASTRAS BHP WOULD BE LESS IF IT WAS MEASURED AT WHEELS!! THE SAME IF THE CLIO WOULD BE MORE AT FLYWHEEL!! STILL GOOD RACE THO!! :D
Nice vid fella, good close race thought you'd pull in 1 st and 2nd must have been the poor start.... N/a power!
In Bristol you say? ;) I reckon my sx wih 290bhp would pull nicely from the clio!

Probably mate
good video that, quality bunch of mates too.
lol nice one.. also proven do not got that tuner ..bet he spent alot of cash to get it to 230 bhp .. lol
wot mods did you do to get it too 161 bhp?????
got the magnex+decap itg filter but not chipped her
Is that 161 at the wheels? So almost 200bhp? Is it stripped at all?
That astra doesnt seem to have 271 imo. Point to point i'd back the clio all day long but on a straight, with a rolling start i'd back the astra.

Not anymore he has stuck all the interior back in!
Without interior then yeah maybe. We all know what the clio's are capable of. ;) With it i'd expect the astra to pull on a straight like that with the extra torque it has.

yeah, interior is back in and it is not as fun to drive but it is quiet, sleeper....it sounds like its always sleeping now

Mods are Williams engine, AP-D gas flowed/ported head, catcams & vernier pulleys, remap, decat, full system....Standard airbox and standard air filter
super quick mert...
had a go around some lanes the other day with a gsi... mullered him around the bends, like you towards top end mid range i got raped :(
for its power and youres, youre clio must be uber rapido

it is rapid as fook! ive been in it and when i got out, my hands were white where i was holding onto well....the seat!? coz thats all that was left in it! lol and i was shaking!! now im dying to get my hands on a hybrid.... ahh well:wink: good race!
The GSi's have real trouble getting any power down, my mate has a mint one with around 240bhp at the fly, and my valver can beat it up to about 60-70... just coz of traction... my valver is bog standard too..

If the astra is 271 bhp on the flywheel, how about on the wheels? earlier you wrote that the hybrid is 161 on the wheels and 188 i think on the fly right?

No problems getting his power down mate, it has Traction Control ;)

I would hazard a guess that the astra is aronud 225-235Bhp at the wheels

Damn that hybrid fast :) well done mate! I have a friend who is a opel/vauxhall fan and when I showed him your vid he didn't believe it. He told me if a clio 160 hp can beat that astra then a normal valver 137 hp must easiely beat a GSi 150-1800 hp.... very lame if you ask me ;)

Hahahahhaahahhaahahahahahah I can't believe it! I wrote vauxhal and vauxhall was shown :):):):):) Cheers to the site moderators :)

Yeah, it is slightly different, not forgetting torque figures. iirc, the valver puts out around 109ft/lb of torque, where as my hybrid put out 165ft/lb. Also 136/137bhp is at the flywheel which again is 180bhp plus I am missing some of my interior

Yeah I read earlier about the "striptease" you did ;) :P When it's stripped out how much does it weight? Is the difference big in the flexibility of the car?
cliolord
05-09-2007, 18:28
I would hazard a guess that I removed around 75Kg bringing the cars weight down to around 920Kg. I removed the spare wheel, rear seats and all rear trim, sound deadening under carpets, front door cards, rear wiper motor and jack. Plus I fitted a set of Team Dynamics 15" alloys which are lighter than the Turbines...Unsprung weight is a killer :P
After stripping, It felt much more alive and the sound was unreal you can really hear some hard back pressure exiting the exhaust. Feels like a real drivers car plus you wont get your mates asking for a lift everywhere with no rear seats

The last one was a real killa :):):) About the rear screen whiper is it that heavy to remove it? after all it helps in a rainy day ;)
cliolord
05-09-2007, 18:36
It's not brutally heavy but it weighs more than you think. Every little helps, ask Martin

Hihihihih nice man really nice :P
No problems getting his power down mate, it has Traction Control ;)
All the traction control will do is cut power when the wheels start spinning, so it doesn't improve traction so much as just regain it... which is something of a hinderance and very rarely an advantage. :)

This is true zollo but it's also a default setting, you cannot turn it off. Modern car shite! lol
Mr.AdamB
06-09-2007, 19:00
on the astras u can turn the traction control off u need to take a fuse out my friend has done it but it cuts power steering as well sumreason lol..
but still for straight line racing its fine.
+ stripped it the way forward! andc i knmow wat u mean about the backpressure forcing it way out the exhaust raws!
