does any one know what forged internals would be rated to, i mean what would the engine be able to rev to, also i ve seen forged pistons, rods, bolts etc but i ve never came across a forged crank or seen any crank for sale that is up rated,

also

if i was building a high reving engine, what type of bottom end bearings would i need ?, could i use factory bearings or do they need uprated aswell? and where would i get them ie who sells them ?

cheers Finlay

hi mate
i noticed pgti mag that a company called qep do a forged crank for f7p + f7r but its alot of money 1000+
maybe you could just get the original lightened and balanced

right for high revs you really just need to change rods and pistons as the standard crank seams good for 9000 rpm but steel cranks are available for around the 1500 quid mark. also you can use standard bearings but the clearence,s need to be exact. you will also need a lot of money spent on valve train components like solid lifters high rpm valve springs etc. speak to dimma 16v or stan as they both have 8000/9000 rpm engines. mine will rev there but because of configuration will be making no more power maybe even less than at 7000 rpm. i suppose an all steel engine would rev too 10,000rpm but i,m not sure it would be any use in anything other than a track hill climb type car.

thanks for the info, yup its a pricy buisness this engine tuning, thats a boost if the standard crank is good for 9000rpm are dimma 16v or stan running a standard crank ?

mines std item dynamically balanced. from a diesel also, so fillet rolled and a chunk lighter than the willaims item

would it be an idea to run a diesel crank in my williams turbo?

i thought they were the same items. is this not the case. i was lead to believe they were exactly the same part.

its just a thought as while mines apart i may aswell change it if it makes good

Critical dimensions are the same. As I said above, the diesel items (or at least the ones i have seen...this is renault remember  ) have been fillet rolled, and a few kg lighter.

i agree as its apart. but i thought they were the same part. maybe stan,s just lightened his. you can knife edge and lighten the standard item a fair chunk.

looks like i may have to purchase one if its a reasonable price. was gonna have my williams 1 lightend and balanced but i think it may be a waste of money due to prob gonna struggle putting power down anyway!!

No, they are 100% different as regard what I have outlined!

Theres little point in knife edging....as anyone who has the faintest idea about aero-dynamics will tell you, its the trailing edge of a body which mostly affects its effect on flow dynamics.

I may possibly have a diesel crank in the next few weeks if you are intertest...in Inverurie too so not far.
