I'm looking to change my 16v to something a bit better and i'll have about 3-4k to spend.

So far the shortlist consists of:
Williams
GTiR
200SX
Golf GT TDI Mk4 (sensible option :o )

Any thoughts on the above or other cars that you'd recommend ?

(Car is not for commmute, purely for a runabout/plaything, MRS friendly tho  )

Id say GTiR but then im biased :P 4k will get a minter and used as a weekend toy the 20mpg isnt that crippling

Failing that it would have to be a Williams.

Williams, and Mr Zollo's fits the bill nicely....

I agree with Gaz :!:

Why would you want a Diesel Golf for a runabout/plaything, by the way?!

My mrs likes the golfs  and i fancied the sound of 400NM of torque when chipped but i feel i'll miss the charachter of the clio too much, i love the way it handles (willy wide track) and the look of the car. Maybe a williams should be the way forward ?

Zollo your williams looks good, I'll deffo have a think about it 8)

I've been showing her a string of pictures of 200sx's, pulsars, rx7's etc etc and the only one she liked was your williams lol. It is very clean tho

I would pick the rx7, but the running costs will be crazy (rx7's like petrol)compared to the williams and golf.

The thing with the RX7 is.. for my budget they'll all likely be close to rebuild mileage and that isn't cheap :(, they like oil aswell as petrol and are hard to find in UK trim which means JDM import insurance inflation :(

Would love a rex tho :-k

My 2p -

I ****ing love rex's. Theyre easy to mod and they handle well. I looked at the for ages and decided against one though as they are tempermental. Its just the nature of the car. When they work they are great and you could buy one and not have a single problem but then you could buy one and get bills in the thousands easily enough.

I went for a 200sx S14a. Its rwd, easy to tune and a uk car.

For under 1k they can run roughly 280bhp. i bought mine standard and with a Exhaust, filter, Decats, fmic, 15 Psi boost, fuel pump and a few other bits it runs 290bhp. They also only weigh 1250kgs so lighter than a rx7.

With the sx's gearing and 280bhp you'll find they are easily quicker than most jap evo's/ scoobs once rolling. Due to less weight and trans loss. Mine made 240bhp @ the wheels. ;)

i love the 200sx, the pulsar and the 200sx both have the same SR20DET engine and both very easily tuned, mine hasnt had alot done to it but its running 303bhp and 309ft/lbs of torque so they dont hang around, the pulsar will be faster off the lights (4WD) but the 200sx id say would be well ahead once rolling

Engine internals are standard
standard tubby and gearbox etc
Uprated clutch, holds 1.3 bar
HKS actuator
HKS air filter
Mongoose exhaust with 3.5" tip and 3" decat
Blitz dsbc boost controller
Apexi SAFC
Greddy turbo timer

turn it up to 1.2 bar and you get 300bhp

that 200SX is the dogs danglers, me and the mrs drove passed an S14a in black the other day, i pointed it out and she dismissed it straight away :( Although that just gives me more reason to buy it - she won't drive it 8)

You lot keep teasing me with the lovely jap stuff
