This was argues a while back, there was no definitive answer from what i remember, some people said valvers were better than 106's other said it was the other way round.

Personally id love black 106GTi, would take one over my valver tbh.

valver feels more of a manly car to drive imo

both as quick as each other on any given day its like anything valver wins 106 wins yada yada yada

106's seem to respond better to the very basic mods more than a valver does though

i had a little race with one of these a while back, leaving a 30 onto a dual carriageway i let him pass and then pulled out behind him was even til about 90 then i pulled on him and eventually got past around 1** he was carryin 2 passangers though.

From my experience with saxo vts's which is practialcally the same there is nothing in it up to 100 but my can edged it from 100-120 slightly.

There was a guy on here who owned both i think and he said they were pretty much the same but the valver copes with a passanger better.

clios are definatly better top end i must agree, laurens was really really quick to 100 then it ran out of puff abit, still a really nice car

oh and if you do get a 106 make sure u shrink ur feet a couple of sizes so u dont keep hitting the accellerator and teh brake together

I sold my valver and bought a 106 gti think they where both pretty much the same. I did like driving the valver more though sound and the power difference makes it feel better

AE on the forum had a 106 gti before the williams, the 106 was very close to the williams but i could very slowly edge away but was very close.

There seem to be some "very good ones out there"

The only way to definatively answer would be to have 2 cars of equal milage and condition and a stig

No need to shrink em, just unleash the power of the heel-toe

As said, its swings and roundabouts really, theres fast and slow ones of each..

I had a do against my mates 106gti when i had my valver, he passed me like i wasnt moving. Later when it was a Hybrid, we were dead even. His gti was unnaturally fast though lol

lol works both ways, a stripped 106 gti would beat a standard valver!

The reason why some seem quicker is that they aint as old as the poor old valvers and are still a bit fresher.

Thats the way i look at it, no doubt some will disagree

But if i had a choice between a VTS and a GTI, VTS all the way for me 8)

Standard for standard the GTi will be quicker. Just do the math. Simple.

Valver looks better, more aggressive and individual, 106 looks newer and more reliable.

Valver all the way!

106's are good, but dont handle like a Valver IMHO

Stu's old 106 would of got a pasting off my old valver, still great cars though the 106's, tail happy to say the least eh Zollo :P

Now how about a 106 rallye with a VTS engine in lol

A mate of my brothers and ben306's has one, fully stripped.

Goes like a good un but couldnt pull from mine at 110

Unfortunately there was no path for me to pass him

106's and VTS are underestimated though, as is always the valver too.

Perfect example of a 106 GTi, or ropey and well-used Supra. I know which I'd rather have! And there's also running the thing...

yes but when you need to travel 30 miles a day to work and back in stop start traffic i think that is a little unreasonable.

agree with Daz.

I had a 160 gti before my valver and it did respond very well to a de-cat pugsport system and forced air induction kit.

But i think standard there would be sod all in it, but with mild breathing mods, i think the 106 might well come out on top.
