Hi all im new on here :)

Quick question

Ive just got a 1996 16v
The abs light is on and when im brakeing i can feal them grabing on and off....

The alternator belt does need adjusting could this effect it ?

Can i totaly disable the abs and just run as normal ?

Or does it sound like im gonna have to fit a new pump ?

Is it a big job and are pumps easy to come by ?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Nothing to do with Alternator belt.

Pull the ABS fuse = no more abs :D

That's fine until it comes to mot time.

If i remove the fuse for abs will this solve the problem ?

Least it will give me some time to get a pump sorted.

Just want to be able to dive it without the brakes grabing on and off....

Thanks for the fast reply.

May not be the pump, chances are its one of the sensors.

It would still fail, if the car has abs fitted the light should operate and go out in accordance with the data sheets.

Thats true but the last 3 times I had my valver mot'd it went fine as it was with this technique - I did the same for the airbag. true thats not necesary for an mot but I did it anyway.

The fact that valvers had abs as an option helps - not a single person looked for an abs unit or looked for sensors on the wheels - I watched too as I went to while-u-wait jobbies.

I thought I'd get pulled up for it too but never did.
