To this last night;

Door

Sill

http://images.auctionworks.com/hi/72/71618/clio_sill_april07.jpg

Im gutted lads. This car is my pride and joy and this is the first bump Ive had. It was last night when pulling out of a car park, it was dark, only clutch control to propell me, full lock on steering, 5mph and twat, I twatted this staionary post that is knee high and was out of sight. I was ****ing fuming becuase I wasnt concentrating and it could have been avoided. The pictures dont do this justice. The door is ****ed. I cannot believe how thin the panels are, theyre like coke cans. As I said I was only moving on clutch control and I got this. The noise was phenominal though!

Anyway what do you think I shud do?

Ive been to a couple of specialists today and here are my options.

I was quoted £200 for a panel beater to beat the dents out and it will look new. However £200 for that seems steep.

I have been quoted £240 by someone else to have a new door resprayed (when I say new door I mean donor door) and my rear arch done too. And he said he could re-shape that flat spot in the sill.

What would you guys do?

Winston if your reading have you any 432 passenger doors?

I phoned LTR but he said call back tomorrow to see if he has a door.

This is what I would prefer to do find a 432 passenger door and whack that on. I aprreciate that the colour night not be exact but by having one side sprayed it would mean it may look different to the other side but this might not be noticable. I think a donor 432 door would be best.

Lads what would you do?

PS I couldnt sleep last night because of this!

1, get over it, its a lump of metal. we all make mistakes

2, get a 432 door off another valver or willy3

3, have sill / rear arch repaired

4, say ah well shit happens and my bank balance is now a little lighter

5, go drive the thing and smile again!!! :P

Cheers,

I know the cars not writtne off, but its just a bit of a mess.

Ive phoned LTR for a 432 door but ive to call him tomorrow.

Is changing the window and electrics not an absolute pain in the arse if I get a replacement door?

Never done one before.

Its £200 for the panels to be beaten out a bit steep really?

yeah dont **** about, get hold of a second hand door in good nick. the sill is an easy fix, i would be tempted to prep it, fill it and then blend it in myself due to the location so circa 20GBP for materials and free to do! arch, well not sure about that haha

You should be able to pick a door up for ~ £30

No chavs and someone is always here to answer questions.

I dont do cliosport.net!

It was dark when it happend last night and it was 10 times worse than I expected on looking this morn.

Ive decided on a new door if I can get one. Ive PM'd winston.

LTR are getting back to me tomorrow.

Does anyone know any other specalist renault breakers in the Preferably North West???

Not crucial tho.

Cheers lads.

I wouldnt bother with LTR they are a waste of time.

TBH your best looking at your local scrap yard, get one off an rsi or something.

If it was me personally I'd have it repaired as your gonna have the hassle of changing the door lock plus it will be noticeable with a second had door on, the paint may be more or less faded etc than the rest of the car. Least if you have it repaired and the sill, then the side of the car painted, it wont be noticeable.

Yeah it might be slightly different from the other side, but who looks at 2 sides of a car at the same time?? Its not humaly possible. lol

Notices in different shade of paint are always when it is one panel next to another.

how come you'd rather do that nyk? surely 2 snd hand door is the safer option too than a door full of filler? there's no way that will pull out on the door. mines had a bump on the drivers door and i've had to buy a 2nd hand door cos the dents cant be pulled in it. the othe roption is sprayed and filled = nooooo thanks

The panel beater said he could get it out and you wouldnt notice it at all, that was £200, no spraying involved. There's no paint damage you see.

The other option is a door resprayed and arch done as well for £240 which seems a pretty good price and the company are the dogs.

But ive never changed, locks, electrics windows before and most who Ive asked said don't even go there, get the door pulled out for £200.

Im really in 2 minds because for £240 I can have my arch done as well, for just £40 extra.

Ah man, I dont know what to do........

A decent panel beater will get that out no worries.

I would NEVER have a door or any other panel bogged up with filler, and any decent bodyshop wouldnt do that anyway.

Thats not too bad at all - I'm depressed today as I was having a damn good look at the car and its not been happy over the winter

They're only small blemishes but they're adding up now and I don't like it!

With a bit of work and money involved you'll have it back to its full glory before you know it. It is fixable thats the main thing. With the attention the car has received so far (looks the dogs!) its worth the ballache of doing a proper job rather than a quick fix. Loving the r19 ph1 16v alloys, looking forward to seing pics of it once the work is completed.

Just think, it could always be alot worse.

how long have you owned it ???

something else will go wrong once you have sorted all this out, its just how things go lol

if u got the cash mate and ur sure the bodyshop are kosher, i'd go the £240 root as u'll only have to pay to get the arch done later if not now and rust or whatever it is gets worse and for repair work plus arch its not bad. depends on how flush ur feeling tho!

Daz - tell me bout it, i polished mine other day and every blemish in the paint made me cringe, am sending it in soon for fine tooth comb treatment, want it immaculate for FCS! 8)

Yes, its difficult to decide what to do as everyone is saying, 'do this', 'I'd do that'!

£240 for the whole side does seem good price but I dont fancy having a whole side re-sprayed but there and again the arch will need doing at somepoint and that will have to be blended probably as far as the door so this looking likely.

I really want to keep the door so I might go down the route of panel beater and get the arch done at the same time.

Ive had it for 3 years this May.

And yes your right, something will go wrong soon.

It's been pretty good really, just the usual, clutch, PAS pump etc, a few hoses have gone too.

I don't kick the shit out of it everywhere I drive it, and also let the oil heat up EVERY morning before I go to work so Im sure this helps for the future.

Gearbox seems ok at the moment (should I really say that!).

Burns a bit of oil, but how much depends on what I use, does that make sense? Used to use castrol magnatec but found it just disappeared. Doesnt use any water so its pretty kosher at the mo!

Its on 85k, only had 1 owner before me for 10 years. I think its been garaged because the paintwork is so mint its untrue.

Paid £2175 for it in May 2004, with 59k on the clock and FRSH.

Definately been looked after well before I got.

I can imagine it does work, as heating then rapid cooling of metal will cause it to expand and contract. The expansion will probably push the dent out.

Getting hold of the liquid CO2 might be a problem tho, not sure if you can buy it in a rattle can.

It might work well on MKI clio's too with the panels being so thin. Im sure this would help.

Well thinking about this, Im gonna have a go with this tomorrow or day after with my C02 cartridges.

I ride a bike and take C02 cartridges with me incase I puncture.

They are liquidish form, more just ****ing cold when it comes out, and I mean ****ing cold1

Im presuming its more the heat from the hairdryer reacting with the severe coldness of the stuff rather than the fact its liquid.

Only problem is that the burst of C02 is only around 20 secs from my cartrdiges.

Gonna have a bash though, worth it.

This is a great, interesting post, cheers!

Surely this can't work though as panel beaterswould be out a job!?

Doubt it'll work on big creases mate. If you wanna swap the door guts over its a piece of piss, i've done it loads and only takes an hour tops

If you bring the door to me i'll do it for free lol
