View Full Version : Hot inlet, other options apart from PFTE gasket?

As title, mine was incredibly hot today and I doubt it's helping power at all. What do people do to keep it cooler?

This was off the motorway aswell where engine temps were normal.

vents or air feed.

maxiboy have you got a pic of how you run the feed to it?

no mate am using a ptfe gasket and scuttle air filter.

I know on the 16v k-series motor they used a plastic inlet manifold, weather this was to reduce inlet temps or just cheaper manufacturing i dont know but seems like a good idea, also noticed that the exhaust manifold would fit an F7 head with a small amount of modifying to bolt holes..

K series manifold has too small primaries for a willy engine.

Can't really do much about cooling the inlet manifold apart from the PTFE gasket. You could cut some vents into the front of the bonnet but I doubt it'd do much.

Make a manifold out of plastic? lol

A lot of manufacturers make their inlets out of plastic on newer models. Unsure about the difference in temps but they are a lot smoother due to not having rough castings, the intake turbulance on modern engines takes place more using flaps and bowl designs in the pistons so doesnt need to be disturbed in the manifold and so the smooth design helps, dont think this would work quite so well on older engines with differently designed intake ports/piston crowns.

Also the plastic inlets dont usually have an inlet gasket as such, just rubber o-rings straight onto the head so this may help with temps, as said though the best way would be good cool air feed and venting :D

they are plastic as its about a tenth of the price to manufacture and can be done a lot quicker!

^^that as well!
