My Willy 2 is now in at Mark Fish for cambelt kit, water pump & aux belt.
Is being a pain in the arse as was quoted for original job but the water pump is a shit to do apparently so costings just gone up
What is rough time to do all that?
Oh well at least it is done for a while I spose...

well you cant tell until you start to take things apart mate, i paid more labour than my original quote, but i understand really because every time you touch a nut or bolt on my car something breaks which adds more time to jobs

Surely if they quoted for doing the waterpump they must have known what sort of job they were doing?
It's not like they have never seen a clio before.

agreed.

Its not fair to quote one price, then bump it up once the car is in the workshop.

My garage had mine for the day when they did all of the above.

I thought the whole point of the changing the water-pump together with the cam belt swap was because it does not add on to the cam belt swap labour. They shouldn't bill you for the cam belt swap labour AND another amount for the water pump labour, unless the water pump labour is a small fraction of the cam belt labour. Even my spare part guy was saying the water pump swap (during cam belt replacement) is usually unnecessary, but since it was the same labour cost as cam belt swap, I might as well swap the water pump anyway.

water pump aint that bad, not if cam belt etc is off, i'd have words if cost goes up much more than 1/2 hours labour tbh!

agree with coops. should not take more than an extra half an hour.

Thanks for all the input - I was quoted a certain amount for it all & he did call today to say it was gonnna be a quite a bit more so sounds more then half hour!
Will see what he says tomorrow before I jump the gun.
I took it locally as Hill Power was a bit far but if the costs spiral too much would have been cheaper to have gone there.

Yeah I know what you're saying but this Mark Fish motorsport who has a very good name & is very handy for me as on my doorstep so don't really wanna piss him off too much.
Will see what he says morrow I think. Go from there

exactly...this is why they should be sticking to their original quote...its not exactly the first clio they've touched!

Twas cool in the end, he is a very nice guy & I would still take my car back there (sooner rather than later it seems as steering column shagged). Sorted the price with him.
Happy me :D

if it,s only shagged at the bottom get it welded and save yourself money.

ziggymini

Already had it welded, Mark drove it & said it was awful!

That really is the workshop from heaven though...some of the cars there made me dizzy with joy!

MAXIBOY

as it,s easy and cheap to change when the belts are being done.

Agree.
If i have an engine out will always change the water pump along with the belts.

why change if running ok?

MAXIBOY
12-04-2007, 23:28
because its cheap its also done 72,000 miles and you would be gutted if it failed 5,000 miles later and you had to pay the same labour charge twice.

From a cost standpoint, mon.

1. Changing aux belt and cambelt including labour
About 230GBP

2. Changing aux belt, cambelt and water pump including labour
About 260GBP

3. Changing water pump only including labour
About 150GBP

About 260GBP

I think that is very cheap though as Hill Power do the cambelt kit fitted for £260 not with water pump.
Mine was over £450 to get lot done, there is also the north south divide on labour charges I found when I rang round. Nobody quoted anywhere under £350.

Oops sorry, I'm in Singapore. Had it done by the local Renault dealer and was charged the standard renault labour hours (8 hours, I think) at about 18 GBP per manhour. Although I am sure they spent a lot more time figuring out how to get it done (as it's the only registered Williams in the country and my usual crew have all been re-assigned elsewhere).

Oops sorry No worries :D

We can only dream of Renault charging that I'm afraid, they are more like about £80 an hour now or so I think?
