I know a few people will frown, but I need a tow bar for my 16v. Does anyone have one fitted, or know where I can find one?

All the ones I found say they DO NOT suit the 16v, do you know why the kit would be differnt to the RN,RT, ect...clio's???

Thanks

Pat

hmm my old 1.9D had a towing assembly so they must be able to tow ?

Well, Haynes say for the 16v models they have a max towing weight of;

Un-braked trailer 485kg
braked trailer 800kg

You'll probably have to get one off a lesser model and modify it to fit

Trying to make me jelous!!!

Good news though, at least this means it can be done.
So... can anyone think why a lesser model Clio's tow bar would be different to the 16v's???? Could it be the AUX petrol tank in the way??

dam edit button.....

the towbar doesnt actually go anywhere near the fuel tank mate. u loose the spare wheel carrier, as thats where it mounts.

and u also have huge holes in the boot floor. the 1 on the willy was fitted by radbourne i presume, as thecar i had was their demo car.

Thats cool thanks, I understood that you had one on your Williams, and its the same set up as a Valver.

My only remaing question is this........

Why would a tow bar for a MK1 Clio 1.4 be different to a MK1 Clio 16v.

Everywhere I look the lesser modles are different parts, So what would be different??

Hope this makes scence.

shouldnt really be any diff tbh mate.....the shell is the same for em all, floorpan wise....which is where it mounts...the only reason i can think of is if the wirings diff., but again this is same throughout the range.

so why they have diff towbars for diff models is beyond me.....unless they for diff years, i.e. new shape.

I'm stumpped too.

Its not the years, it definitly quotes not for 16v's..........like this one;

with it saying no rsi/16v i would imagine it has either something to do with the fact that they both have rear discs, or the type of rear beam.

neither i would have thought would cause a problem tbh.

id say best thing to do would be to ring them up and ask them tbh.....they the experts in that field after all.

shouldnt really be any diff tbh mate.....the shell is the same for em all, floorpan wise.....

from what ive seen in the scrapyards the lower spec'ed clios are made from thicker metal than the 16v's and williams jon.

isnt it just so they can charge £50 more for a williams tow bar?!

and ur point is???

they use stregnthening plates anyway mate..so that doesnt matter.

my point is that the metal is thicker - thats all. wont affect a towbar fitment but i do think the 16v / williams shells were made lighter than the 1.2's by using thinner metal.
