View Full Version : Side Strips and Rear Bumper Strip

Did a bit of painting today , As my side strips , Door Handles and rear
bumper strip where fading to a light grey i decided to paint them
to give them a newer look ...

first was the rear wiper ans bumper strip which looked abit grey

Did a masive masking job as i didnt want over spay all over the car

Next were the side strips , look alot newer since being painted

Just need to do the front bumper strips and ready for the M.O.T then the
car will be up for sale as im after a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo 8)

Why not just remove them from the car?

What is the best paint to use so that they dont start peeling 6 months down the line?

the side strips he can remove.. but the bumper inserts tend to be a pain do they not....i was quoted by winston " do not remove them if u want to put them back",



i used Halfords black bumper paint for the strips handles and the scuttle panel.. they do indeed look like new...

your Gran wont be impressed you stole her rocking chair cover to mask off

Well unfortunatly the wiper bolt is ceased on so no way of getting the
wiper off im afraid with out damaging it , so drastic masking needed
to be done ...

The paint i used was halfords bumper paint but you also need a bumper
preparation spray to sray on first which sinks into the plastice so that
the bumper paint keys properly hence not pealing off in a few weeks

Its ok she's as blind as a bat anyway , So hopefully wont notice :lol:

yeah i used the prep spray.. was surprised when it sprayed out.. i was thinking it'd be some sort of primer. .. not clear liquid..looking good anyhow

So whats the prep work before that base coat? Just a thorough wash?

i washed the bumpers with water first...dried then used the prep spray.. waited till it had dried then used several coats of the bumper spray

Jeez, how many weeks worth of newspapers on there!?

Good work.

When I did mine it was windy as fook!

Its surprising where the paint gets.

I just used halfords own matt black spray for my inserts.

I didnt want them too black and this was the way forward.

The side ones are best being removed to be done but the bumper inserts I just masked as it looked a pain to start trying to remove.

Same with the rear wiper, salty type corrosion under the cap, was fast on so just masked!

Again door handles prob easier to mask.

Worth the extra work, pics I find dont do this kind of re-spray justice.

Looks a million dollars when all is done.

Scuttle panel and wipers are worth doing too, I did my scuttle in matt, and the wipers in satin.

Yer i did the Scittle Panel and wipers last week .. its amazing the difference
it makes ...

I'll be sorry to see the car go but needs must as they say :roll:
