Car died earlier while I was driving and woudn't start again, turns over but doesnt fire. RAC came out did some tests found there was nothing coming out the main HT lead and concluded it was my coil pack gone.

Bought a new coil bit (just the front piece where the ignition lead plugs in not the back bit as well) changed it over and still no joy, so I found the back bit from a scrappy and put the 2 together but still not working!!
Any ideas?

check the earths on the gearbox first

check the ht lead

crank sensor

etc etc

crank sensor is fine, lead is fine, he put a device in the end of the lead then got me to try and start it and there was nothing coming out the lead? Connectors on the coil pack also fine...

So it might not be the coil pack then?

it might be the ignition module itself.....

ive not known one go on a renault clio 16v.. but one did on my old daewoo l pg lol.

Ignition module is the bit the coil bolts on to aka amplifier? or something else :S

also as above check the earthing...
if you still dont suceed..whack it on the diagnostic xr25 clip or else you'll be changing everythng

so bad earthing could cause nothing to come out the lead?

yes!

the ecu will have mixed signals and not caused a sparkto be fired..ive sustained that fault before...with bayliss in the car..

So 2 on gearbox, one coming off battery, any others I should check?

off top of my head im unsure..i added an extra 3braids to the car...have a mint idle lol

it is usually the gearbox earth(one on the mount) that causes this sort of problem.. it might not even be this...but certainly worth a check

Not an immobiliser fault ? just to rule it out

The braided line earth from the box was fine but i cleaned it up anyway, there was another small earth on one of the other box bolts which wasn't on... I think the main reason might have been one of the positive wires hanging off the battery
