Whilst taking the engine out of my hybrid, i noticed there was quite a bad oil leak, which looked like gearbox oil. As i was taking out the offside driveshaft, i noticed the subframe was covered in gearbox oil, then i noticed what looked like the source of the oil, which was a bolt hole with no bolt in it.

Luckily, i found the bolt resting just below it on the subframe, so it looks like it just dropped out.

Unfortunately, when screwing the bolt back in, it snapped

I've ordered a new bolt from Renault, and im going to have to try and get the snapped bolt out of the hole. Can anyone tell me if this would be causing my leak? It looks like the bolt is there to hold the plastic cover on?

aye it will leak from there.. it covers fifth gear up and the oil inside.

either drill it out and tap..or clean it up and chemical metal the hole...can always seal the casing on aswell

I've ordered a new bolt from Renault, will drill that bolt out whilst the engine is out.

Not sure why it snapped though, i didn't really put much pressure on it!

order a new gasket aswell if your taking the casing off

Any other gaskets i can replace (easily) on the gearbox?

Seems to be leaking a fair bit!

probably find that the bolt falling out, and snapping are related

Right,

When i was ordering some parts from Renault the other day, i asked if i could get hold of one of these bolts, to which the parts guy replied yes.

So, he brought up the diagram of a random JC5 gearbox (as i didn't know exactly which mine was, but thought all that was different about them was the ratio's anyway), and pointed out the bolt on the screen that i had snapped. It looked the same as mine as pointed to the bolt holes for that black cover, so i asked for one.

Well, my parts arrived yesterday, but the bolt that arrived is not right. See pics:

The existing snapped bolt:

The new bolt that came:

The part number of the wrong bolt...

Does anyone have any idea of the part number for the bolt that i actually need, or does anyone have one i could buy?

Cheers!

You might be right, lol. Seeing as though i randomly found it on the subframe..

Well i need to drill the snapped bolt out when the engine is out, so i'll have a look at what the other bolts are like when its out then i'll know.

should just be a normal bolt that holds the end case on.

Theres no gasket on there, its just a large rubber o ring, you will find the aluminiums corroded so clean the o ring up and wire brush the box casing to help it seal properly.
