Got board today so went to the workshop for play with the turbo's bottom end.

1) lifted the heavy block on to the bench for ease of work.

2) removed the sump to reveal the oil pump and cover....

3) removed the pump to reveal the crank and attachments

4) removed the shells thrust washers and then used a wooden dowl so as to not scour the con rod base...i drifted the pistons out, and removed the crank.

5) after inspecting the crank, it was in good order... the shells were .25mm in size and showed no undue signs of wear...on looking at the crank again i spotted some light scoring,,....which was polished out...crank has seen some mods and balancing. the edges of the crank have been fettled.

6) the block was stripped and ready to move....

7) but not before removing the oil jets...

8) i then treaded the bottom end to a quick bath...

9) some strange wear was present on the flywheel.....

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/gunnergibson/Turbo%20conversion/flymeal.jpg

so it was introduced to the lathe. lol

10) I then commenced the head:

only to be hindered by the discovery of solid lifters and kcd 1111 274 degree / 8.9mm and kcd 139 266 / 9.8mm lift cams, and a ported head.

however this head will not be going on the turbo....

The rebuild commences when the mobile honer gives my bores a spring clean on tuesday....

don,t understand why you would use solid lifters with such mild cams really.

that's what i was thinking lol

anthing over 10mm lift should use solid lifters really..however Benr R runs 11mm lift cam son hydraulics

yeah i think solid lifters are needed more for high rpm than high lift as they don,t have chance to pump up with oil above 8500rpm in conjuction with high lift valves.

I haven't done anything bar repairs to her since getting her off the last owner, Rich. (Which is who you probably saw it with i'm gueesing mate?)

But... I am saving for some new upgrades, 16" alloys, Wilwood 4-pots with 300mm discs and TB conversion. Should be an interesting "end of year upgrade"! Lol. Hopefully, going to get Ben at Angel Works to do the conversion as well. :)

Fun fun!

Cheers. :)
