Quick tip.
If you havent done it recently or in fact never done it then I can thoroughly recommend giving the insides of your throttle body a good clean out with some carb cleaner or easy start.

Did a Clio 16v earlier this week and it has transformed the idle and seems a bit keener through the revs as well.

Going to do the rally car tomorrow. I can almost gaurantee it will look like a coal mine in there before cleaning. Will take some before and after pics.

for a quick guide, remove your airbox, then unscrew the airbox mounting plate to throttle body.

Check and clean is the way.....also a good time to have a look at the confition of your air filter.

Spray it with either carb cleaner or just use some easy start if you have any. Work it in with a soft bristled brush (toothbrush is perfect) doing both the face of the throttle and around it i.e hold the throttle wide open with your hand. You wont need to scrub hard. Keep spraying and brushing until it comes clean and wipe with a rag. Job done. Once the filters off should only take 5-10 mins.

Oh and try not to lose anything inside the throttle body.

What if carb cleaner goes into the throttle body?

Mark_Ritchspeed

Wont make any difference. It evaporates quite quickly, but if you dry it all with a rag before starting it back up there will be no problems.

Before starting make sure that none of the bristles of your brush are wedged anywhere and if they are give it a quick suck with your vacuum nozzle.

Mark, the problem with King is he doesn't know the difference between suck and blow!

How much more complicated does it get to clean beyond the butterflies? Or does spray carb cleaner givesthe insides a nice clean as well?

BRUN

Very very carefully lol. cotton buds and white spirit mainly, its the reson I wouldnt recomend using 10k boost etc as if your inlet track is as dirty as that was then all that is going to be washed through the engine which I dont think would do the valve seating or your bores much good lol.

Mmm well ive used fuel cleaner (slick 50) a few times so it shouldnt be so bad. I will give some of this stuff brun is using a try at FCS, shouldnt harm it at all.

when i fit my cams i will have a good look at the head, if its dirty then the polish will come out :D

Fuel treatment wont really touch the inlet track only from where the injectors spray, but i wouldnt worry my 56k willy 2 engine was alot cleaner. My 16v engine hadnt had the best of lives before I got it.
