16v and williams ECU's are different......16v ecu would run very lean

Simple enough to remove and swap tho :D

what about a superchip(piggyback one i think) from a 16v box would it work in a willy ecu

nope it would have to be a willy superchip (mapped for a willy etc etc)

strange.. my mate ran his 16v ecu with no problems on his williams..

however take winstons advice... get one of those chips from ebay.. the £50.00 ones...

the map on them will be correct.. then get it soldered on your board...

how can you tell if its 16v ecu or a willy ecu is there a code difference????

Yes.

The S number is the one to look at.
Willy ends in 107,
16v Ends in 101, 103 or 105.

Aye, i've heard that as well...think it was from jimbo (?) or similar from CS/Retro-Renault...someone with a willy lump in a R19 anyway...

By the very nature of the Williams being a bigger engine capacity the mapping of the ecu is different from the std 1764cc 16v Clio both on fueling and ignition as well as the rev limiter being set lower. A Williams engine will run on a 16v ecu but will be on the lean side at full throttle and not perform as well. The Williams uses the same ecu throuout the range 1,2 and 3. so any Williams ecu will work on any Williams. The 1764cc 16v ecu was changed 3 times through the span of production varying slightly on map settings and also in circuit board design. The early ecu is the same circuit type as a Williams. The second phase has map settings in different areas to the first with the maps in different areas of the programe but will still run on a Williams (but again the chip would realy need remapping for a Williams but an early board chip will make the engine run high at idle and not work correctly so a different chip is needed) The third phase ecu to the best of my knowledge incorperates part of the imobiliser code and although the ecu will run on another vehicle it again needs the right remap to work on a Williams.
Any 1764 ecu should work on a Williams but I would strongly advise that a modified chip is fitted when using it on a Williams.
