Im undecided, i would preferably not own another french hot-hatch but i cant stomach the cost of insurance on a MK4 Golf R32 so whats left?

Needs to be fun to play out on the moors but a little more reserved than the williams... hmmmmmmmmmm :?

Thoughts people??

p1, pick up a very tidy one for 10k, how much is too much on ins? i got quoted £600 fully comp for a p1, ( 26, 6 years ncd, garaged, tracker, cat1) thought that was reasonable......

BigBoreBri

P1 was same as the R32 to insure... :(

No offence nyk each to their own like but i would rather walk than be seen in a FORD... even it is is realli reealliiiii reallliiii fast! lol

Stella Artois nicked Evo's logo...

....'Reasuringly expensive'

haha :D

Owned Evo's and will definately own more! they are an ubelievable drive and can work as a normal everyday car or an absolute track beast!

Some parts are expensive yes, circa 500GBP for a cheap aftermarket stainless exhaust, 200GBP each for discs, service every 5k miles, AYC oil change every 9k miles (just changed wooohooo used to be 5k), if you go crazy and get aftermarket turbo's and other tom foolery you will be shelling out a good 2-3kGBP. However, if you are interested in EVO's log onto www.lancerregister.com and have a look around. there are loads of cheap mods that can be one to get the evo running superb and for relatively little costs. The costs definately dont outweigh the pleasures of driving and the respect given when pottering around you local town haha. best thing ever, the look on Aston Martin DB9 owners faces when you are all over their brand spanking new ass! haha

Shame on you to call the sacred name of FORD. lol

£ for performance you cant get much better than a ford, but not everyone likes em and each to their own like. For £500 on a Escos you get a stage 3, which is map sensor, greens and a chip - takes you to 330bhp, work out how much it would cost to get an evo to that power, and compare......

:D :D :D

You say you dont like fords but what bout a FRS?? cheap to insure, mine is less than a 182 to insure (grp 16) an a good one is available for around £11500 to £14000

There is no doubt that the Ecos is a superb car and good gains can be got for very little money. I hope i get to own one in my lifetime. However, how many standard lancers do you see driving around with a fake EVO kit on? i have only ever seen 1! do a quick search on ebay for 'replica' in cars and you will find half a dozen fake cossies instantly. This isnt the fault of the Ecos, but it does cheapen the brand if you ask me and even if you had a real one, you will always have people thinking...'is that real?' etc... which isnt important to some people i know, but it would bug me! lol

25-03-2007, 12:33
i have a friend with a focus rs....he's got a tubular manifold and an ind kit,it puts out around 260 bhp and does well against e46 m3's..

he bought it to replace a racing puma and his quote was "i think i've made a mistake"!!!!

he's still got the frs and loves it but says its no where near as much fun as the frp...

thats what i'd have had.....

grp 14 ins

8k buys mint

7800 rev limit standard

never see them anywhere but know when you have!!! 8)

having said that i had a run in collins 400bhp focus and thats hairy scary shit fast :)

If you had an ounce of knowledge about cars you would know if it was a replica or not straight off as they look shocking, nothing like the mean stance of a proper one, ive only ever seen one spot on one but im sure if got up really close i would tell i.e. massive wheel spacers. That one had rst running gear and everybody at ford fair was wondering why it was doing mid 6 seconds to 60 and smoke was pouring from the front wheels and they still thought it was real, felt like telling them but i felt a bit harsh

Detective Mat strikes again, what is it mate- 182?

nyk
25-03-2007, 19:45
Exactly, anyone can tell the difference between a cossie and a replica, the fact that so many replicas are made surely reiturates that it is a legend and a compliment in a way to the Escos.
Its only the same question everyone asks about the williams, "Is it a real one?".
I get asked all the time if my car is a williams, and it looks nothing like one.

Well i cant say im 100% won over with my new toy but here's a pic for you all:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a165/BigBoreBri/FrenchHotHatchs.jpg

First impressions are that seats are comfy and the power delivery is a little more "pokey" but its quite decieving as its no way any faster than the williams out on the road, also the steering feels gash its way too light and feedback is almost non-existent; the nose wont dig in round bends and pull its self through so you really have to point and squeeze on the throttle and hope that grip is on your side... think im gonna shove some GSD3's on it ASAP and see if that gives any improvement. Also crusie control is just scarey, oh yea and as its french its about as responsive as a tortoise on LSD.

Well feel free to slate my "sensible grown up" upgrade/downgrade? from the williams...

Justin..
25-03-2007, 20:46

i understand where everyone is coming from with regards to the 'replica' comment, however, the point i was making is that even if you can tell the difference being a petrol head, there are as many people who cant and as such that would piss me off. its not so bad being asked if your williams is real etc... as you didnt shell out 12k+ for it like you would for a good Ecos.

I love the Ecos, i love its shape, its aggressive lines, the way it looks as it drives, everything about it screams 'legend'! lol however, i cant help but be let down by the drive and power once you have been in a tuned EVO. having said that, i think the driving characteristics are totally different so deliver totally different things.

back on topic - nice car bri! had a 172 cup and loved it! altho i wouldve got an evo haha
