well annoyed

my coilovers are 7 weeks old, had my MOT yesterday and it nearly failed on excessive play in the wheel, due to movement in the shock its self, he said it wasnt in the top mount, wasnt a wheel bearing or anything was deff in the shock its self :S

That is shocking. Who you buy them off/brand?

Have you taken a look yourself? Is the movement in the actual damper (slop) or is it not flush 'against' the mounting points?

How many bolts are holding it in place at the top? (Is it a front coil-over your talking about, and only on 1 side?)

I know you said "it isn't in the top mount", but some coil-overs are not hard mounted, and have a rubber block to dampen the minor vibrations slightly, which is between the shock and the mount.

im going to get the garrage to write a report as ive spoken to 2 modified and ive got to buy new ones before i can send mine back, i simply cannt justify spending all that money again, id rather send them back and go back on stock suspension as imo the coilovers arnt that good.

So they've not been set up! lol! What camber and caster did them set them to out of curiousity?

You really need to get them setup properly, esp if lowered. at best you will get increased tyre wear, at worst severe handling problems + severe tyre wear.

Once they are bolted on however they should not realistically have more 'play' in them than stock items. I am dubious.

Are they leaking? (or are they gas?)

Sure that the spring is compressed in the shock and doesnt need a helper spring?
And that all bolts have been rechecked.
A worn hub can give play in the wheel.

Not too mention... has the pretension already been setup? (Normally not done as you receive them, you have to do it).

Do they have elongated holes for camber adjustment ? Are they done up tight enough ?
