just interested to know what car people are going to replace their Williams with... by replace I dont mean "yeah, ideally it's gonna have to be a Ferrari 355 F1 Berlinetta...", but more something you will realistically replace it with...?

KingStromba

Ill keep them for ever probably.

J o n
16-05-2005, 13:34

i knew it was a hoax all along, stuck by me guns... the logic of it made no sense, who in their right mind would swap a Williams 1 for a 172!?!? LOL

Corrado VR6
Integra Type R
Sapphire Cosworth
Porsche 944 Turbo or S2
Delta Integrale
BMW E30 M3

These are the cars on my 'must have' list :D The VR6 is the most likely one, as it's about the same value as the Clio.

It's got to be something completely different, so you don't make direct comparisons and get dissapointed.

For instance, the Cosworth may not handle as neatly, but you'd be too busy having fun with 300bhp to worry. The Corrado offers refinement and a lovely 6 cylinder wail. The Porsche and E30 are RWD, so will provide a good challenge and a completely different driving experience.

And they're all massive hits with the press, and famous for their brilliant handling.

Personally, I'm a bit of a driving whore, and I don't want to be stuck with the same sparring partner for the rest of my life.

Oooo, yeah, an NSX. I saw one of those yesterday.

That's another one, the 968 CS.

It's going to quite a few years before I can afford anything over 10 grand, otherwise I could give you a whole other list of cars I MUST have :P

FWIW, Evos make a very logical step-up from a powerful fwd car and the ability of even the earliest Evos is plain staggering. They also suffer from an identical problem to the Clios and that is completely shit brakes as standard. I have found they are not even up to hard road use on all the versions I have driven. I managed to overheat the brakes in the Evo 4 today in soaking wet conditions and I wasnt even going for it.

Also if you can live with the less in your face looks of the earlier Evo 2&3's, then you will probably find them even more fun to drive than all the later versions. My favourite of the lot is the Evo3, which has talent by the bucketload without all the nannying AYC to interfere with the driving experience. Slap some decent brakes on an Evo3 and if you can drive properly, then expect to lap somewhere like Oulton Park about 10 secs a lap quicker than a Williams. They really are that much quicker.

And although I love Integrales with my heart, my head knows that they are nowhere near any Evo from 2's onwards. The 4wd game just moved on so quickly.

Funnily enough I was very close to buying one of these before I bought the willy. I saw a mint Ltd edition red one in the trader for 7k, but just a little out of my price range and plus I'd wanted a williams for years so decided on that instead. What are they like kel, I've heard they are rapid!!

The next car I get in a few years will either be a VX220 turbo or Lotus Exige.....

I think either an EVO 5 or 6, white with white wheels or black with white wheels!

Lancia delta intergrale EVO 1 or 2,

Renault 5 GTT,

Escort Cosworth,

Audi S3!

A couple of these are hopefuls but would like to own them all one day!

Martin
16-05-2005, 21:12
Don't think Clean_16v rated his S3 much tbh ....but I would'nt say no to a escort cossie! :)

For Jesus, pure porn if you ask me. Also try and get one with a decent exhaust on as standard Mitsu item is woeful. Although not verified on rollers, I could quite happily believe that a decent exhaust (say Apexi N1 or similar) will easily release an extra 20bhp+ with these cars.

Since the Williams is a track/ fun car and not needed dsay to day (thankfully) I think its only going to be replaced when either it gives up being abused by me or somone offers a stupid amount of money for it.

Then I'd go for a Cup racer probably either a new 172 type and make it road legal or a Mk1 Clio racer.

If not err not sure a 205 gti maybe but then again after Saturday there not that quick I overtook one quite quick and I cannot drive very well.
The car I'd like most to repace it as a second car is an Elise though. An owner took em on the track day in his and it was superb an older Mk1 for a few grand would be great. Or maybe a kit car but I like some crature cumforts and I'm a bit tall for most of them I think.

I think the Williams has ruined me realy for a future replacment. Evos etc would be quicker but repair cost are that much higher.

I think you're right there edde theres not much that can touch a williams for the money...maybe a mi16 205? Scoobys(some of them  ) & evos are quicker but they are also a lot heavier and drink more fuel....I would'nt fancy forking out for x4 215/45/16s after a trackday!

Mark_Ritchspeed
16-05-2005, 22:07
I wouldnt recommend a Scoob as I find them just too tame. They are quick cars, but just feel a bit too safe and predictable for me . The beauty I find with Evos, especially earlier ones is they just feel so light and nimble and as long as your using decent tyres have a fierce turn-in. You can also powerslide Evos much better then any Impreza I've ever driven.

Also, if you get a decent Evo the running costs neednt be that scary. In general they are very well made and can put up with heavy abuse as long as the basics are well maintained like oils etc. Fuel costs are generally quite expensive when driven properly like they should be.

FWIW, when I replace the Clio, it will be with a rally prepared Evo 2 or 3.

I believe you King, but an octogenerian driving round in a Ferrari will look a little strange....

My next car will probably be old and cheap. Unfortunately the switch in my girlfriends head has disengaged the fun loving, blue veined havana smoking, money spending, drink-to-get-pissed side of her brain and engaged the get a mortgage, two kids, washer/dryer and only drink at christmas side. Gutted.

She'll be driving round in a poxy TT and I'll be living it up in a 205 Gti. Come to think of it.... I'll probably be better off!!

Swervin_Mervin
17-05-2005, 01:12
It has to be RWD for me really. 4wd would be too easy.

Can't believe how many people like the S3 which is really just a glorified LCR. Now if you were to say RS4 avant, that would be another matter. However cars like that are too practical. The g/f likes fast practical sized cars so I can afford to be utterly impractical with my choice really.

Well, you've got more degrees than a protractor so you should be earning yourself some wedge. Or are you working on something big like a cure for cancer thats gonna get you a nobel and wads of cash??!

Swervin_Mervin
17-05-2005, 14:47
He's too late for that one. Some Manchester scientists reckon they've cracked it.

KingStromba
17-05-2005, 16:09
There can be no one cure for cancer as cancer is a group of diseases with different causes. Some cancers are caused my microbes, some by environmental factors and some are genetic.

But i have found a 100% fool proof way to stop yourself getting cancer. Shoot yourself. :D

Swervin_Mervin
17-05-2005, 16:12
They have found a way. They've found out how to get the T-cells to start recognising the cancer cells again. They've had virtually 100% success rate by extracting said person's cells, turning them on again, and then multiplying them up a lot, before re-injecteing them.

It's more a treatment than anything else. And it's been working on all forms.

KingStromba
17-05-2005, 16:14
They come out with this shit all the time. Its to make the public believe science is curing things. There is no cure for cancer.
