over the past week or so my car is drinking petrol more than eva

today there was a grinding/rubbing noise coming from drivers side brake. It made the noise even if the brakes was not being pressed :?

I took it home and jacked the front end up and had a look and the brakes are sticking on, the drivers side only e.g the passangers wheel spins freely,

i took the wheel of and it looks as if the pads are stuck on also the disk it self moves from side to side is this normal?

What is the problem and is it going to be costly?

thanks 8)

mmm could be that the pads needs some copper grease and the guide pins need some more redd grease to free them up a bit. Sure somebody else can help further....

Yeah check the guide pins are moving freely and also check the rubber boots around the guide pins to see if there are split, which could have caused dirt to get in? Other than that could be a shagged caliper?

As for the disc moving, unless its screwed into the hub (which sometimes they arent as the screws can snap/break etc) then it will have some play in it until you put the wheel on as the wheel bolts go through the disc and hold it firm.

do not use copper grease around rubber components as it f**ks them up

Yup you need silicon grease.

use red rubber grease.

^^ apparently red rubber grease isn't good either, has to be silicon?

^^ forget that, red rubber grease or silicon is fine lol.

its difficult to give instructions as i don,t know which part is seized. also not trying to be rude but playing with the brakes without some one helping you out might not be a good place to start as it could be fatal.
