They are saying on the radio that this car tax bracket is now going on Engine size and 4X4s, and thety are saying that 2.0ltr and up are the top of the price bracket meaning we will be paying £400 a year to tax our ****ing cars!!!!!!!!

looks like those bunch of pricks are gonna have their own way again!!

I knwo I heard this also. Hopefully with mine being 1.8 it wont go up that much.

But I ahve heard that for my class it will be an extra £100 a year, and the 2ltr and above will be £400 a year.

anyone wanna buy a Williams 2

i really cant justify paying that much tax to run a car like the williams for a few thousand miles a year

21-03-2007, 16:20
Im not sure if this applies to older cars. Only to ones registered after 2001 ?

bluenose
21-03-2007, 16:22
But you can insure a williams on classic insurance and i thought classic cars were tax exempt?!

£400 a year is disgusting! Fair enough if you have a 4.5 v8 that spews out more crap than Gordon Brown himself but not on a clio!

bluenose
21-03-2007, 16:28
That came out wrong! lol. I should have worded it differently, sounds like i dont pay tax now! what is the criteria for a car to be a classic anyway? I've heard the word 'classic' in the same sentence as 'williams' on a number of occasions.

yea thats true, all to do with the emissions the car produces and they only started noting emissions on cars made from 2001.

well remembered

classic for free tax is 1971. but this should roll on but doesn,t. should be any car over twenty/twenty five years old. but as it stands 1971. same year as the black plates etc.

Taylor

luckly mine is 2000, if i had to pay £400 i would be selling it, dont drive it enough properly to justify the amount im spending to keep it on the rd

yes that is true! it was meant to be a rolling thing but that stopped in 1996... anything 1971 and before are classed as classics..

yeah we wont be payed £400 a year, but what takes piss is the 4x4s still have to meet emissions laws and alot of them are just as clean as some normal cars!

btw i mean newer 4x4s as in 2001 onwards, this goverment takes the piss, i klnow lets waste 13billion on an olympics event and close more hospitals n leaves holes in roads and lack of police etc, muppets!

tis a piss take...altho the mrs dci has dropped from £50 a year to £35 ...she keeps reminding me how cheap her car is....

now she does a lot more miles in her dci than i do in the willy...wont be long before ppl are crying out for the new road tax plans, taxed on distance driven etc.

theyl get what they want one way or the other ..they always do....give it to ya with one hand, take twice as much away with the other.

so for all cars made before 2007 the tax for 6 months is 99.00?

clowo16v
22-03-2007, 12:45
Reason they've done it is because everybody opposed been taxed by the mile, so they stick the big price hike in and people think "well it could have been worse" so they'll pay it

Errr, no. Pre 2001 there's a fixed rate depending on whether you're under/over 1549cc. Post 2001 you'll be taxed based on emissions.

no the pence per mile taxing will come into play soon. they held it off as it would have had an effect on the elections

once the elections are over they will begin implemeting it.

It was on the news the other day, someone over heard that Ladyman bloke talking about it

They'll never get everybody to fit the black boxes to their cars and if they fit em in new cars everybody will just keep their old ones.

thinking about it tho, if the whole global warming thing is so bad and they are so worried about the effects that carbon is having on the weather why dont they introduce more drastic measures now rather than putting tax up and hoping ppl just stop using cars more.

just doesnt make much sence on their part which makes me think its just bollox

global warming/carbon emissions are a load of bollox mate. just another way of the govt taxing us stealthily.

0.005% is what the human race emits in terms of carbon....cattle etc make more than us.

as for the global warming/cooloing debate...its a natural thing.the earth has been heating up and cooling down again for millions of years. its no biggy.

The news were talking arse. It won't happen for quite some time yet. No one wants to be the one to introduce it.

So for our old timer cars the tax has gone up by a fiver which isnt too bad, they aim this tax hike at people they consider can afford it. i.e. i know a couple of salesmen at work that own 4x4's and they said it doesnt bother them and wont stop them buying them. Likewise for the people that come in to buy 60k Q7's or A8's theyl just pay it.

The government claims its to stop people buying these cars but they are counting on the fact that the more wealthy people wont care. As said its the people with larger engined cars that are older like 2001 172's, Golf v6's etc that will suffer because they dont have the same sort of money but have to pay the same tax. It should all be relative but it isnt.
