the wrx is pants imo but thats just me. They are over rated cars with a low price tag. The skyline is the way forward, true straight 6 turbo power and the interior is nicer the car looks nicer aswell. Gearbox's on the skyline are good for double factory power as seen in the legendary cosworth borgwarner gearbox's...the wrx has a more chocolate type box in it that melts when high power is delivered. This is my review anyway

Don't fancy an Evo then?

Ive heard the skyline gts-t is a bit poo if mildly tuned and the gtr is the way to go, if you cant afford a r33 gtr, imo go for a r32 gtr over the r33 gts as both will be similarly priced.

can't comment on the skyline as never driven one, but have a scooby and can't fault it........goes well and is easy to drive and play with, also parts are relatively cheap and available.......can't be a bad car as theres alot on the roads......

If I wasn't paying to run it - Skyline.

If I was actually considering buying one myself - Scooby.

scooby

+ cheap
+ loads of cheapish parts for them
+ classics look nice
+ nice design touches like internal brake lines, everyone says its rally designed, its not, its to avoid damage on farm tracks
+ compact car

- everyone has one
- chavvy
- cheaply made

skyline

+ can be made very fast
+ I think they look lovely
+ pretty solidly built
+ despite the weight they go very well
+ big car nice and roomy

- interior could be any micra with a few fancy bits
- running costs
- jealousy, people will want to damage it
- big car easily hit in car parks etc

I have a 2.5t skyline which I have to get rid of cause im tieing the knot, mine is mildy moded exhaust and air filter, I put £20 super in it and its good for about 80miles, provided you dont have a heavy foot, these cars come into their element at 30mph basically after the boost has kicked in, the thing is with scoobs you stuggle to get huge power gains, but the skyline standard comes with 7psi boost and a small turbo and still produces 250bhp, bigger turbo and a remap and away you go. I have heard these can be tuned up 600 horses. its rear wheel drive which for me is more controlable power delivery. Compared to the willy the power delivery is completely different.

Im after 4.5k but im open to offers, you should really take advantage of me cause i need the cash. PM me we can talk

Modified 200sx s14 or s14a... :) Every kid will think it's a skyline anyway lol. (Plus it will embarass scoobs (As I have done a few times and mine was only "stage 1").

A) For 6-7k you will get a reasonable r32 gtr.
B) 3-5k a reasonable r33 gts-t. r33 are the heaviest and longest skylines. Consider for better handling an r32 or r34 (10K for gtt)
C) You won't get a reasonable/decent r33 gtr or r34 gtr for anything under 8k.

You will get more "respect" with an evo as they don't have the same image as the Scooby. If you can look past that then consider a scoob. Only the first wrx's had big probs with the gearbox's being weak. 2nd gen were notably better. [I don't know much else in the way of scoobs or evo's to give more info than that sorry apart from the clutch arrangement on latest evo's is not too hot as standard).

Fuel costs. Like any turbo car (with rotary engine being the exception) if you floor it expect to return about 15mpg+ overall. If you drive just naturally then 25mpg+. Motorway cruising as ever will return at least 25mpg depending on the engine for turbo's.

To close, consider what sort of driving you do with the car you intend to get. If it is a motorway commute to work, think about getting a 200sx or skyline r33. If it's b-roads get scoob/evo. If it's a-roads mainly then it won't matter that much which one you get.

If you intend to get a skyline, go test drive some gts-t and gtr and see which you prefer to drive. Bear in mind also if you intend to mod that they have 'skyline tax' added to parts, just because.

Whatever you buy... BE CAREFUL. Assuming that a 4WD car will always get you round a corner regardless is why you see scoobs on their roofs in fields. RWD is more predictable but does have a 'newbie cull' factor if your not used to RWD cars.

My mate just sold this to a guy who used to (might still be?) be on here. Running about 280bhp and looks absolutely stunning.

R32 GTR everyday... sooooooooo nice but 9k for a good one.

BUT can you afford to run it.. they cost bucks and drink fuel and i mean drink!!

You can get imports a lot cheaper than £9k for r32 gtr . By nice do you mean modified?

9K-10K your starting to get into reasonable r33 gtr terriotory.

There is no mistake here though... ANY* skyline (especially gtr) is one heck of a piece of kit.

Matthew
* does not include 4 door and non-turbo/2litre variety

Forgot to say... skyline r33 is still quite a heavy car, but replace exhaust + cat, up the boost a little bit (be careful as some have ceramic turbo's, you need steel turbine for above 1 bar), and it is a lethal weapon.

9-10k will get you a good Evo Vii, better drive, more usable power, easier to service etc.... all depends on personal preference a the end of the day. whichever you go for, get it checked out by a specialist before you agree to buy, will save you potentially £1000's in repair bills.

Definitly, Cosworth power is the way forward. Big fan of the Sierra Cossie in moonstone :P Nice and standard looking saph 4x4 as the 2wd is asking for a dead sentence for sure especially in the wet. A few modifications and map and you will be seeing 300hp+ of reliable power although the Ford gearbox's are not as good as borgwarner, they are still more than up to the job 8) Damn, I love cossie's!

cossies are cool, however dated, my mate had one running 440bhp and it was forever going wrong, but when it was good it was amazing, taking it for a good thrash at night and pop the bonnet and look at the turbo glow :D, you will be hard pushed to find one that is mint and not falling to bits!!

I'd go for a R32 GTR. Lighter than the R33 I seem to remember. Hard to find a genuine one though, be very careful, cos when they go wrong it can be expensive.

I think resale value would be better on the Skyline as well, as it is more exclusive and does not suffer from an image problem like the scoob.

Tuning potential on the Skyline is well documented, but is expensive if you do it right. Ceramic turbos go bang with high boost eventually, you have to upgrade to steel ones. There are several other areas which need to be upgraded as well...do yer research.

Lancer EVO's? Great cars. Very quick, usually more torque than sccobs as well.

Just look at the heritage of each type of car. the scooby and Mitsu are rally weapons, whereas the GTR is more of a beastie track car. They serve different purposes and therefore handle and deliver accordingly.

I am actually thinking of buying a Skyline GTR myself, though the sensible part of my brain is saying keep the cash and get another R5 GTT or Willy...
