ULF needs some new fronts and as she's mostly going to be a weekend/track car I wanted something a bit more grippy.

F1s are alright but tbh after a day on track I find they lose their edge, and if I've arsed around they also fall apart. The budget Firestone's have lasted brilliantly but whilst they are fine at teh back, they just didn't offer enough traction coming out of the bends when I tried them on the front.

So does anyone have any suggestions. I asked elsewhere and many baulked at the idea of having shonky rears and grippy fronts, but then what do they know. The only guy that approved was Matt who used to have the white 106 Rallye.

I had RE720's on my old 106 GTI. What a difference. Traction in all gears expect 1st gear in the wet. Never had them on track though.

List so far reads:

Colway cut slicks
RE 720s
Yoko AVS Sport
Yoko A038 or A048
Hankook Ventus R-S2 (popular with US autocrossers apparently)

Out of that group a048's although colways are really good, RE 720s are crap and i havnt tried the rest.

AVS Sport are good - run them as my list 1A tyre.

What's the wear like on teh AVS sports Steve? Can they take some arsing around and not go off? That was my problem with the F1s, they tended not to fall apart but just go off.

Seems pretty good for wear. Not done that many miles but most of it has been track days and sprint races and they still have pretty much full tread, although that was rotating F/R anyway. Whilst the 032Rs I also run were pretty much unstickable the AVS's did have the back moving around a fair bit if the diff was wound to 66% rear, but even this didn't seem to have caused any noticeable long-term damage to the tyre.

Sound alright then. Don't want them too grippy as it will be on std suspension for a bit and I don't want to stress it too much. Think I'll give 'em a whirl.

Can't bloody get hold of these anymore. Booo. Anyone got any other suggestions?

I've been told the Parada Spec 2s are the shizzle, anyone used them?

I have been using some Yokohama A539s and i have been impressed with them.
For the price of them there real grippy in the dry, and the wet weather grip is more than sufficient.
I dont know why people say these tyres are bad.

I've never got on with them, always seemed to squeal too much.

Mat.

Looking at what people have said about them, tyre pressures seem pretty important to get good performance from them.
There admitedly not as grippy as eagle f1's but at a set of 4 fitted for £162 cheap to ruin on the track if all else.

Never got on with A539s.

Might go for the Paradas as they're only £31 a corner for 195/50s.

Paradas are supposedly ok in the wet as long as they're warm. It's when they're cold and damp that you need to watch out.

Should be no issue on track really.
