my car failed the mot with a decat put the cat back on and tired again.it failed the lambda sensor was slighty to highthe garage said it could be cat or sender.gunna borrow a cat and try that if not how much is a sensor??
Hi mate
A new lambda sensor was £58 for mine. Sorted the rough running and hesitancy out completely too.
I think I got mine cheap, but they shouldn't be much more than that from GSF or ECP.

Havent bought one for a Clio recently, but I should imagine I can get them cheaper than that. Let me know if you want me to find out.

it worth getting 1 if your running a decat?
Yeah, because the sensor is located before the cat. Cat or no cat, the lambda is needed.

Yep, Lambda in basic terms tells the engine how much fuel it needs and a duff one can send mpg and performance downhill.

i have 1 on there already. but the garage said without doing a diagnostic's they cant tell whether its the cat or the lamda.im borrowing a cat on sunday so il get it restested monday if it fails on emissions again i will be 95% sure its the lamda. the mot guy said running a decat will screw the lamda up (he talking crap) how much will a new lambda set me back if i need 1 as cheap as poss really...also is it just a case of unscrew old 1.screw in new 1
dont pay more than £60 for one mate
you should be able to pick one up for £40-£50 id have thought

Just checked with our suppliers. £48 retail, but we can do them for £38 + p&p, which is only going to be £2-3. Let me know if you want one.
Ok, so I didn't get mine very cheap at all then. Crap! :(

BTW retail price of £48 is plus vat so is in reality £56.40. The price I quoted includes vat at £38.
As far as I'm aware, running with a de-cat will not damage a lambda sensor. The lambda is before the cat, so unless exhaust gases flow backwards, it won't be effected at all!

mark how long does delivery take next day????also it just a screw in job?

Delivery can be next day if required, but will obviously be slightly more expensive than normal delivery of 2-3 days.
Easy job to do, but make sure the old one gets a good soaking with wd40 (or similar) before taking it off.
My mate had problems with emissions after putting his cat on at garage and trying emissions. Ideally needs to do a few miles after fitting cat back on. He did 20 miles and re-tested it and it sailed through the MOT.

Big could be right. Didnt even occur to me that the Cat needs quite a bit of temperature in it to be working properly.
For this reason we rag the arses off cars when taking them for the MOT. The RX7 we had in a couple of months ago even melted the test probe it got that hot.

i siad this to the mot guy i drove it about 2 miles after i refitte dit and the guy left the car running while he was testing a few other things.he said it wouldnt make a diff as long as it was up 2 temp. i thought if the lamda was screwed the car would run rough??i borrowed another cat so will put that on /(if i get over this hangover) retest 2moro see what happens

I would recommend that you fit an o/e sensor not a universal type. I have seen on the diagnostic tester the aftermarket universal types have a different voltage output against mixture and can still give problems. Just my twopeneth worth from experience. Dont go to Renault for one though as the o/e unit is Bosch and can be bought much cheaper from a Bosch dealer.
