Hi,

Just done a 5mile round trip into the city of bristol, it was all stop start traffic, in that time i noticed a few things about the car.

WHen you turn the wheel left and right a bit when moving or stationary, you can feel and hear a knock, turn it left...knock, turn it right....knock.

Also when i accelerate and deccelerate sometimes i will hear the same sort of knock, basically when doing low speed stop start driving you hear quite a few knocks when going along but they all are the same noise of knock they dont really differentiate.

If i put my hand on the strut top in the engine bay and turn you can feel the knock, and when your engine bay you can hear it quite clearly.

However i dont currently have a jack/axle stands to investigate.

Is this play in something? Or am i mistaking it for the slightl slack in the gear mechanism in the steering rack?

Am i thinking this is play in something? I had stan check most things over and he said they were ok.

What do you reckon is up, im hoping this is related to my 70mph wheel wobble...

hmm, ive got a very similar problem in my valver, except it doesnt knock when turning, only in stop start traffic?

I think it could be my passenger CV joint as ive just replaced the driver's shaft and both rod ends, so i think those are out of the question.

Isn't it easier to just buy a whole passenger driveshaft, instead of replacing the CV joint alone?

Mine did just what yours is doing , What i found it was the aux belt loose
and was jumping on its rollers ... get someone to turn the steering left
and right and see if the belt is jumping .. Which sounds like a knocking noise !

Sounds like ball joints, but I'm no expert.

dont rule out the down pipe on the dogbone mount

don't think it will be ball joints as ive just recently replaced both rod ends!

Obviously i shall check this, but its quite unlikely!

Not too sure about the alternator belt or dogbone thing tho, seems alot more of a harsh knock to be either of those, ive had the dogbone knock before, and its not such a tinny sound, more of a clunk so to speak!
