Renault admit in the current AE that the 172/182 was conservatively styled and that's why it it is virtually indistinuishable from the rest of the range.

However, the next gen RS Clio will be more like the willy/valver in that it's going to get a more bespoke body, rather than just some new front arches like the 172/182. 8)

Obviously it still won't be as good but it's an improvement over the 172/182.

New clio weights 1250 kgs and has 200 bhp, and does 0-60 in just under 7 seconds.

Thats 300 kgs more than a Williams

more like a megane

Unfortunately there's not too much they can do about weight given modern safety regs, but at least it's styled like a proper hot hatch this time with bespoke panels.

I thought the days of bespoke coachwork for hot models was well gone.

What I can't understand is that Reno are normally very clever...for example over here you can buy the Twingo a sort of friendly looking clio with headroom, despite it's success here they never marketed this car in the UK as they felt that it would impact on the sales of the clio without increasing overall sales.

Where is this new clio going to fit in? surely it will depending on price badly affect the sales of the V6 :? and megane!

There will be no V6. And this new one's expected to cost c£17k

Renault have had the problem of differentiating the 172/182s from the normal cars. OK they look different to people who know about cars but most others don't have a clue.

There will be a V6 type replacment (ie a unique car) from what I've heard but probably not V6 powered but be in that line of thinking ie a brand image car which although looses money gives the company the image it likes to portray.

That car looks terrible, IMO there are very few 10 - 18k modern cars that i can class as aesthetically pleasing.

Just think that the days of the real hot hatch are dead, they are just warm, hate to say it but they look like they are designed by women for women all kind of round and cuddly, smooth no rough edges, more like Graham Norton than James Dean :(
