View Full Version : Need Help - Petrol Problem ?
Last night on the way to Wigan i was at some lights, all of a sudden the car started to run funny, like it was only on 2 or 3 cylinders
i managed to get to the g/f's and i had a look under the bonnet, i had a split in my map sensor hose, so i presumed it was that, i then fixed that and it was still identical, the engine shakes a lot, so much so that if you try and drive it, it can shake it out of gear if you let the revs drop, if you keep the revs up it doesnt seem to misfire but doesnt sound right at all
will the car run if i disconnect the lambda ??
im starting to wonder if i have this petrol problem
ive had my dizzi cap off and that seems ok, though im going to replace that and my rotor arm tonight, and plugs
i do have another lambda ready to go on but if i have this bad batch of petrol i dont want to damage that by putting it on
ive checked all the sensor plugs are on properly, and re done all my leads
anyone any ideas ?
oh and it also sounds rough, as though the exhaust has fell off, and the engine sounds totally different, like a tank, but also like a Mk3 Fiesta, kind of tappety, oil is on max
mine did this when the h/g blew between 2 cylinders, but if u think it mite be petrol i'd drain ur tank, change lamda and fill up again
im starting to wonder if i have this petrol problem
could well be mate
no idea on how or what u could do to prove it if it were that dodgy fuel ?
good luck
really hope its not the head gasket !!!
it sounds really bad though so i duno
anyone know about the lambda ?

Looks like she is running very rich indeed, get te lambda sensor checked.
notice that 2 are blacker than the other 2 ??
also if i unplug the lambda, or have it plugged in, it makes no difference at all
check your injector plugs are in tight, what are your temps like?
cant judge temps as it wont run properly
Have you 100% got the map sensor piped incorrectly....if not it will do what your saying.
Other than that...change lambda sensor.

Bet it's the injectors/injector plugs.
Mine missed at low revs but not at high and plugs were blackened on a couple. Put a set of 2nd hand injectors in from Nick Hill and it works a treat.
ex mechanic neighbour has been around for a look, now i wasnt there when he was here but my dad said that he said its not firing on one cylinder, number 1
given the fact that the plugs are new and so is the dizzi cap and rotor arm, and that my leads are Magnecors then its looking like a more serious fault

i did what you said mate, disconnected the canister hosing and used the connection for that, for the map sensor, so its all as it should be now
brun your using the wrong plugs for a start
should be theses BKR6EK ngk
ie these
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NGK-SPARK-PLUG-BKR6EK-SET-OF-4-BMW-VAUXHALL-PEUGEOT_W0QQitemZ4557414657QQihZ002QQcategoryZ1040 4QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
i know there not the standard plugs but they are the iridium version of the standard plug
BKR6EIX
i consulted NGK technical dept before i got them
