iv just ordered a wiikey chip for my wii ( from china so gotta wait 7-14days)
iv not had much experience at soldering
its a quick solder chip but i want it wired instead (out side of case for easy removal)
would i be mad to try this myself or can any one near by solder to a high standard
also brave enough to open a wii LOL

It's not difficult to solder, but I wouldn't recommend this job (in your pics) as you very first solder project. Definitely NOT recommended if you have shaky hands.
-----------------
Get a 15w - 20w iron with a small tip and some solder.
Expose only a small bit of the wire.
Pre-tin the exposed wire.
Lightly touch the tinned wire against the appropriate solder pad.
Melt the solder on both the pads and the tinned wire with iron.
Blow lightly to harden the liquidified solder.
Make sure the joint is shiny and NOT dull grey.
Scrape around the pad with jeweler screwdriver to remove any overflowed solder or flux.

Easy... ;)

But you want a decent solering iron with a precision tip not the crappy 230V stuff you buy for a tenner, also if your using the 0% lead ROHS solder then you want temp raising up to about 285-300.C, as mentioned above tin the wires then feed the flux in... there is a technique but it takes practice and you dont want to go experimenting on a fabricated circuit board or you will end up taking the track off!

Also the new ROHS stuff tends to be less-dull than 60/40...

Its dead easy soldering

With the soldering i do hold the iron and solder onto whatever your soldering and count to around 3 and that 99% of the time gives a perfect joint.

Get a decent iron (not the gun shaped ones as they are shit) with a bit of bollocks about it and a nice small tip and, keep the tip clean of solder and flux and you won't go far wrong with that.

im guessing soldering with a blow torch is not going to work well lol :D

soldering isn't too bad, but I definately wouldn't recommend doing your wii without a fair bit of practice first as it is fairly easy to bugger up if you've not done much before.

well after having my wiikey for about 2 weeks sat looking at me dying to be installed( i actualy broke the 1st soldering iron i bought as soon as i opened it so had to wait for replacment)
i finally plucked up the courage to try my own install
i did some practice on an old network card 1st to get the feel
then i stripped down the wii
i was gutted i thought the wiikey its self was tiny but when i saw the size of the solder points inside the wii i felt a bit scared
o well i had to give it a go
i did a wire install with the chip placed in a snug along the edge
and it all went very smooth i was very surprised because it is very delicate work and iv got fat shaky hands LOL
put it all back together and my originals and backups work fine so far

trauma centre wont work ?

i wont be offering my soldering services to anyone else
one wii was enough
