Hi
I am having a problem with my clio.
The CD player started to go off and on for a day about a month ago and then was fine , then a week ago, the clio wouldnt start, the battery terminal was loose so tightened that and then charged then jumped started it, and it was fine for a day and a bit, then it happened again, the same thing had happened so tightened it again, the battery and alternator were checked and I was told they were both fine, it was fine for a day and a bit again then the same thing happened, called someone out again, who said he thought it was the alternator, as it wasnt charging and the battery warning light wasnt working, he then said he thought it was an electrical problem he checked this by wired the battery warning light via the side light and the alternator started charging !!!, that was a day and a bit ago, this morning the same thing happened again .
Can anyone give me any idea what it might be, Oh all the lights come on and the car starts to misfire just before it dies completely

Could it be the ignition switch that is faulty???

Thanks in advance for your input

Sounds like a charging problem to me. If the alternator has been checked properly and proved ok and the terminals to the battery are ok, then its possibly a bad earth from the engine.

Did the mechanic use a voltmeter when testing to see if it was charging?

That's the first thing which happened on my Williams 3 when the alternator had had it. Accelerate - stereo went off.. (well, just speakers).

I was on the Motorway at the time, so was like, hitting the stereo thinking dodgy cable to speakers.. then ABS light, then revs dropping.. then I knew it wasn't great, hehe.

I had driven it quite a way though with the battery light on.

i had an alternator go on an old mk2 escort van once, no charging light came so assumed was just a dead battery, turns out if the alternaotr fails the charging light doesnt necesarily come on, try a recon and ask could unit be returned if it wasnt at fault

If you have non-standard electrical equipment installed, like radio, amplifiers etc. Try disconnecting them to test.
