The 150bhp (ABF??) engine...how tunable are these?

My workmate has a cordoba coupe with the engine in it which he might fancy p/x'ing for the mondeo...tempting to get it as for a second/track car as they ain't going to rust!

is that the 2.0 16 valve engine????

from what i remember anything serious (head, cams and the like) were quite expensive in comparison to buy. but also everyone knows german (vw and stuff) cars are heavy so thats another thing to think about :)

Yep the 2.0 16v lump.

Onlu 1000kg weight wise and thats with heavy leather so not too bad i'd have thought? Mod wise my workmate seems to think its peanuts to get over 200bhp but i don't know?

lookin at places like gti engineering and tsr (tim stiles racing) they all look towards bottom end work for that...

you'd still have fun standard though!!! 8)

IIRC they are quite easy to get a decent amount of power (ie 20bhp or so). The rumour is (and I think it has been proven) that this engine was slightly de tuned to keep it away from the power of the flagship VR6...sure it was nearer 170 b4 the detuned it..a decent remap should see good gains I reckon.

Do a search on google and this seems to ring true

there were a couple at a recent club gti rr i went to at well lane that were running around 165 bhp with light mods so can well see them being capable of decent power. I only just saw one off in my car the other day but i was on me own and he had a car full sat in comfy leather lol
