which would be the best cams for a turbo conversion ? im going to be running a t28 , forge conrods and pistons (but dont what c/r to use ?) and a adapatonronic mangement system. I'm wanting high bhp and turque and to p155 off all the scooby owners in the area. Thank you in advance, foley.

whats your idea of high BHP?

Are you using off the shelf l/c pistons or having the c/r machined to your requirements?

im aiming for over 300 bhp and as for the pistons im going to get them made to my spec by a company in america !

300bhp is easy. why you having them made in america. you can buy them off the shelf. stan can supply any you want. prob 8.5 to 1. with short duration high lift cams.

the only reason im goint to america for them is 1 they can be made at a good price, 2 i didnt know of any body in the uk that could make/supply them other than the over priced "tuning" companies ( bb+ktr ) As for the cams you mentioned maxiboy what make ? cheers

At what boost you hoping to get 300bhp ? C/R is a factor obviously, if you wanna loads.

ideally at about 12 psi , tho is that a no go ?

I can supply cams and pistons....both to custom spec.

something like 260 deg and 10.5mm on exhaust and 275deg 11.mm on inlet should be ok.

If you do it properly with proper cooling and fuelling/ign calibration, and proper mechanics you can go more than that.

Yeh thats nothing really. Was just concerned about the C/r if you wanted like 25psi or something lol.. Less than 1 bar is not problem at 8.5-1

Think hard about C/R and boost you want.. And stick with it, no use building the thing and then wanting more but are limited because of the C/R

Will be a beast I thnk, have you started the project yet?

ok with what uve just said , if i want to go for 25psi + what c/r should i go for and what would be involved in getting the right c/r , ie thicker head gasket ? thank you for your help btw.

stan ,what company do you run or work for as im interested in your cams and pistons ? I forgot to say that the engine is a f7p lump but im going fully at it as i want one of thed best around :D :D

Well to be fair im not sure what a clio would be like with 25psi. But to run boost like that you will need pistons that give you lower compression than that off the shelf ie custom or blank canvass to machine the crown. Think to run that kind of boost it would need be in the 7.4,1 region, but the lower you go it will affect drivability off boost, but will be rampant on it

Personally I would go for a moderate C/R maybe 8.0-1 or 8.5-1 and run sensible boost.
For one you wont have to have a dirty great turbo
Two I dont like realing on boost alone, built a strong engine and you will get good results.
And three take stans advice

www.ap-developments.com is my site

Ideally you dont want thicker gasket. Dished pistons should be used to reduce static Cr, whilst not increasing squish volume, and so the liklihood of det.

8.5:1 would be ok with nice chargecooling.

ok soo how much would you sell forged pistons for a 8.5:1 c/r and the cams you described with pulleys ?

stan

pistons £450
cams £500
pulleys £210

Iapel pistons, Catcams cams and pulleys.

Why do you want 25psi?

If you use a GT28R (rs is slightly better but a lot more for aout 30bhp extra), and run the boost to 1bar -1.5 bar MAX, you should clear 300 easily.

You will also really want to think about traction control (e.g. Racelogic) or you are gonna lose a lot of time wheelspinning on your FWD car. You want a controllable reliable car, else you'll spend more time in ditches are repair shops/garage than peeing off scoobys. Also, what makes you believe that they haven't tuned there engines to 400-500 bhp?

As mentioned, your off boost drive will be awful if you use a too low compression ratio.

One last thing. Running a turbo at 25psi is gonna make it EXTREMELY hot. The clio engine bay is VERY small. This is not a good combination, so if you want reliability and hope to avoid other problems related to heat, I would suggest you don't go above a max of 1.5 bar (which is still massive in reality).
