rite, the canister under my drivers side headlight that has 2 pipes coming off it, one of the pipes has broken off. Could this cause the car to idle at 1500rpm and secondly what does that canister do? any help would be appreciated cheers guys

carbon canister, it reduces emmisions somehow, i don't think it would affect idle tho, sorry mate

it has some pipes interconneted to the vac system on this one for some reason :? different to my own so i cant compare it properly.

Is the pipe thats broken off the one that goes onto the intake manifold? If so this could cause idling problems as the manifold may be drawing air in from atmosphere.

yeah it is the one that goes in the mani. also looking at that i have acouple of pipes to change round so they follow that pattern before i look at other idle problems. tbh i've got my money on that being the problem

Item 3 is just a rubber band with two metal clips on the end that hold the cannister onto item 2.

7 looks like some kind of valve or something, non return maybe?

number 7 is a soleniod valve, it uses the inlet manifold for a vacuum same as brake servo does, and yes coops a pipe does lead to the tank, mine isnt connected on the 16v, just blanked off the feed from inlet manifold lol
