did you buy that from someone who had or was upgrading to a new shape (54) sti????

Jamie.
24-02-2007, 20:29
Not my cup of tea im afraid, too common and not at all special. Only scooby i would have is a P1, (22B), RB5 or WR1 but there a little out of my price range!

Happy motoring though.

Horrible cars. Zero character...Shame you've got to sell the willy!

J o n
25-02-2007, 13:43
disagree, these are the best looking of all the scooby. Just get the drop link and ARB replaced to sort out the understeer, then all you need is exhaust, decat, filter and remap... easy 280-290bhp 8)

looks very nice Holl

its a depressing state of affairs having to sell cars

my williams is up for sale and i really dont want to but i really want a subaru. yours is well nice

im after a graphite grey one tho bit older m or n plate,

have thought about taking a stupid loan out for cossies or evos but i think a subaru will satisfy my needs. until next year!

I recommend the RB5. A bit newer than what you may be looking for but they tend to be more well cared for and are worth seeking out.

holl

The RB5's are really nice but they are a bit more expensive! There are some on pistonheads.com!

And everyone who owns a willy thinks it's the best handling car out there. Don't even get me started on them having a remap.

Woooooo, rocket ship - WHAT?

PMSL @ the haters.

Williams is not the be all and end all. Believe it or not there are other cars out there

Agreed in full.

Sure, my valver was fun for a while, but now I am bored of it, it has to go.

6 grand for six days motorin

J o n
27-02-2007, 14:17
Pikie, Williams handles better than a classic Impreza mate, not as quick though and given the choice I'd have the Scooby any day of the week... but, if it had a remap... ;)

holl
27-02-2007, 21:28
Thanks guys!! im getting it rollin roaded hopefully on saturday so shall let you no how it goes! its running at 1.5 bar of boost so need to make sure it is set up for this before i make it go pop!!! ill still come on here! your not gona get rid of me that easy!

Looks nice.

A Uk scoob will not hit 280bhp without a uprated turbo. It needs the STi's.

I like scoobs and had fun driving my bro's. I'll bet its not much quicker than a willy though even if it feels it. When its RR'd check the figure at the wheels.

AndyFielder

you sure? my mates old one made 290bhp on a UK spec Impreza with just basic breathing mods and a remap :?

Tom16v
28-02-2007, 13:42
I'm 100% Sure. Standard turbo on a uk spec is good for 260 tops

Tom16v
28-02-2007, 13:43
Well maybe 270 on the right car.

Yea I had a Series McRae with Prodrive upgrades all over, and a 200+ bhp R5 Raider embarrassed me once...

Still, those of you poo-pooing the Impreza because it has become quite common...drive a sorted one and you'll know what quick is.

And besides, blue is the best colour as well all know!

Tom16v
28-02-2007, 14:28
"drive a sorted one and you'll know what quick is. "

lol! Whats that supposed to mean?

J o n
28-02-2007, 14:34
What PSI is that running at Tom? iirc they are 12psi standard on the UK spec?

Agree with Wobba too, a well sorted one is an easy to drive point and squirt animal... and I think the classic is becoming rare these days... I'd have one over any Clio tbh... only reason I bought another was because it's on ITB's, other than that I'd never bother

Tom16v
28-02-2007, 15:17
Not sure tbh. 1.1 bar i think!

Honestly though the Td04 that comes on the Uk specs isnt a high power turbo. The Td05 that comes on the wrx would be ok for 270 up to 300, after that you want the vf series that come on the STi.

J o n
28-02-2007, 16:11
well tbh he could have been talking shite I suppose, some turbo car owners do like to exagerate their figures somewhat... I remember back in the day you could ask nearly any young lad with an R5 and they were all 200bhp lol.

All I know is it was running 17psi whatever bar that is... it was on the dial, so that much I can verify lol

Tom16v
28-02-2007, 16:37
17 Psi is 1.1/1.2 bar ish so yeah roughly the same. I know what your saying about figures. My mate has a "180 bhp" punto GT....it must be all of 140bhp max

J o n
28-02-2007, 16:52
lol, yeah, think it's max power fantasy rollers to the rescue again. 120bhp R5's are all 200bhp around me though  pmsl

so, conclusion is that the 290bhp Impreza was more along the 260bhp region? would explain why he'd never put it up against my Williams

Tom16v
28-02-2007, 16:58
Yep i'd say that sounds right. Otherwise, if the uk scoobs turbo (td04) could run 290bhp they wouldnt need put a bigger one on for the 260bhp wrx (td05).

holl
28-02-2007, 21:43
1.5 bar is 21 psi but i dont think it has been set up right tho! i had a race with my bf driving my clio and the scooby was alot quicker! but thats my clio!!!
the sub has got a decat, bigger intercooler and maybe a bigger turbo but were not sure!ill let you no on saturday tho when i get back, im taking it to a place in bolton, R.E Performance if any one knows it?
Thanks

well i keep hearing mixed things to be honest, so on that I'd probably goto Pro Sport in Stockport, excellent rep and the cars they had in there being worked on you could tell they were a decent outfit imo. Very good setup, I'll put the number up tomorrow, have their details at work.

Nice one mate.

Thanks for that! but i ended up going to RE Performance! it was good apart from my car jumping off the rollers  and into the fan! but it was ok- well apart from my exhust(dont no how to spell that! )coming loose, anyway its running at around 260bhp he couldnt get enough traction for it but im happy with that! :D its running alot better now too,

260bhp thats a good figure and on the limits of the standard turbo. Got to be happy with that.

See thejesus - 260bhp. I think your friends a liar....;)

J o n
05-03-2007, 14:29
no worries Holl, not good at it skipping off the rollers, seen that there before, but as long as it was okay!

Tom - yeah could well be the case, not that it would matter in either case, 260, 290, they all get smoked.

be careful in it!

J o n

Holl's is a proper Scoob though, classic is where it's at, they only need the ARB and drop links changing and they go from understeering ditch finders to Evo handling rally bred jap super cars :)

Only raced the newer STI's, not driven one, but would say they aren't as quick as a 250-260bhp classic personally.

Tom16v
05-03-2007, 16:53
As you say, thats a proper scoob. Classics are good cars and nobody should knock them until they try them.

Funnily enough i dont have a problem with any of them either.....well one so far in my sx carrier. But thats got over 400bhp....

holl

shit Holl thats proper shit news :(

what did they rev it to on the RR and were they hitting the limiter? think the absolute max should really be 6800rpm, after that you can start seeing problems. My mate's old one blew up because of over reving

holl
08-03-2007, 21:23
When i bought it the guy said it had had a oil leak and that he had fixed it!!!but it has been getting worse! i had abit of a play with a nissan sunny gtir-if thats what they are called?! the other night(the guy looked abit sad when he saw he had just got bullied off a girl! so it was worth it!) i think that and the rr has just killed it!!!
so hopefully a new turb should sort it!

Holl, get a VF34 off the STI red top engine... think that's what they are on anyway, but worth it if you plan on turning into a monster at a later stage :)

J o n
08-03-2007, 21:58
no worries, do love the classic Scooby and loads of my mates have or have had them in the past. Never really modded them much bar simple things, but the STI's were always quickest (obviously! lol) and pretty sure they have the VF34 and a bigger interwarmer. So much things you can do to them :)

stevie_b
08-03-2007, 23:21
VF34 is on the post-classic models. Was up to VF28 on the last of the 'classic' version 6 STIs. I'd be inclined to replace with another TD04, which are very easily obtained and cheap, rather than stumping up for the VF when you only have an open deck block anyway. I know from experience that these cars are best unmolested, so if you are ultimately aiming for ~300bhp then cheapest/most reliable route would be to just go and buy an STI.
