is it not worth getting something like that for a £10 extra that wont fall apart after a year of use?

If the original is damaged you should be able to repair it with fibreglass and then 1000 degree heat resistant spray. I have done this before on a metro turbo and ran without problems.

Just a thought. Do all Mk1 clios have this heatshield?
i.e. 1.2 mk1 ok to put on the 1.8 16v, or is it a different design?

Ok, so options are:

1) find elusive 2nd hand shield and do a repair/spray up in nice temp retardent paint.
2) buy new from renault
3) buy new uprated from bb/k-tec or where ever
4) make my own

Thinking this is increasing urgent now, as sometimes the clutch just clicks and doesn't engage (or disengage!!).

It sounds more like a ratchet system is letting the pedal all the way down inside the car rather than the anything else though. Hmm.. Will look into that later... but first.. heat shield :D
