Sensor failed? Won't read even if im driving around, was reading a bit earlier but then back to zero no matter how much I revved it, engine wasn't overheating and im guessing I would pretty quickly realise if the oil pump had gone?

Where is the oil pressure sensor located? hard to change etc?

Sensor is at the back of the block on the O/S, can get to it through the wheelarch with wheel off.
Check all your connections first.

aye.....would say the wires come off.

whilst on topic of oil pressure, what does yours read just as you start engine up before it gets warm.

clio 1.8 16v or williams :D

5 bar on startup. then when warm just over 1.

tbh...that depends on the oil used.

mine sits at bout 5 on start up, but drops to barely reading on the gauge wen warm. diff oil.diff readings

mines on 3 on the valver on startup! does that mean theres something not quite right?

I'm with 2live, on start up when the oil is cold and viscous the oil pressure is really good, 5bar+ after its at runing temperature it drops to around 3bar+ when driving, and drops lower and lower on tick over as the engine gets warm and the oil starts to thin. was worried at first but its definately not the sender unit or sensors and the its simply down to te oil. going to change to silkolene from Guy at opie this time so wil see if that makes a difference.

is that the best oil to use then? what thickness is best for my valver?

5.5 to 6 bar on start up when cold.

Drops to around 3/4 when warm and general round town driving.

same as above as well drops to around 1-0 on tick over when warm.

From the back of the sensor? I have spilt a fair bit of PAS fluid and brake fluid round that area so that could be the cause!

Oil pressure sits at almost top when cold and 1.5 when idleing.

Renault say oil pressure should be 3 bar @ 3k RPM. (which mine is, well 3.5 bar)

10w 40 semi syth use helex or any very good oil valvoline max life is good but hard to find

5 then 3 constant

But it should be noted, the pressure sensors arent exactly precision instruments, and what you read on the dashboard should be taken with a pinch of salt tbh.

yep there is that too.....altho having said that...iv seen same engine give same readings in 2 diff cars and gauges.

When running around mine reads at 1-1.5 bar ish..

When putting foot down it goes to about 3bar. I have never seen it above 3 bar as yet. I am a little concerned.

there not accurate. the only way to tell is hook up a good mechanical oil pressure gauge

Scougar
22-02-2007, 14:15
Are they affected in the same way fuel gauge sensors work? (i.e. if the connectors/connection gets dirty or corroded, the electrical signal strength is weaker so the reading will be less).

Matthew

MAXIBOY

yes but the electrical senders are not all that either. dirty oil can effect them as well. plus the things that you have mentioned

Well I have some silkolene pro I am gonna swap to (fully synth) sitting in the garage, just need to get a new filter first, then will do that.

Might *flush* the system with a week long run on halfrauds semi-synth first though :) (£19 or similar).

Thats exactly what mine reads mate

After 1 min off driving remembered to look at oil pressure.. it was idling at just above 3 bar at the traffic lights.... so doesn't look to be a problem :)

So where exactly behind the arch is oil pressure sensor, what does it look like?

MAXIBOY
23-02-2007, 13:23
its on the back of the block. and looks like

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e15/123maxiboy/DSCF1475.jpg

its the little black round item in the above photo. though yours will be vertically screwed into the block without the oil feed hose.

BristolSam16v
23-02-2007, 14:48
Is that the black cylinder with the hose coming out the right side on the right side of the engine block? that looks quite large?

That is quite possibly the worst picture to show the oil pressure sensor lol.

It's clearer on this pic (courtesy of .GUNNER.)

It's the small black round item to the bottom left of the image, behind the far right hand cylinder.

only one i had on the computer #-o

yes the little black cylinder shaped thing.

Surely you mean the bottom right of the picture, that looks like a big black cylinder shaped screw with a silver rim lower down?

Ah excellent! but how the ****** is tht accessible through the wheel arch? Just took the liner off and cant see fck all lol is it easy to get to straight from the top?
