Hi All

Got myself a williams 3 recently, in great order until you look underneath. I knew there was some corrosion underbody but It is worse than I thought. The subframe at the front has been attacked and the tailgate as well.
I have been underneath today with a wire attachment to my drill to get the worst off and it doesnt look as bad as the photos but I'm not sure if I am wasting my time - should I just replace the subframe ?

Really welcome your advise - has anyone been through this ?
Also, how much are subframes selling for ?

thanks for the advice guys, that thread is locked for members only but I should be ok when Northy gets my payment

I am coming from a fairly low level of mechanical ability, to replace the subframe do I need to take the engine out first ? What weight is the subframe carrying ?
Alos would the Hatnes manual cover this ?

thanks again

the subframe carries no weight of the engine mate.

btm arms, and steering rack are connected to it, but other than removing these, only 4 bolts holdin it on.

get shot of that sub frame...or remve and treat it...if you can push your thumb through, or tap a plastic hammer through it then its got to go

need to disconnect lower engine mount (called dog bone mount) and gearbox linkage along with power steering pipework and column to steering rack pinch bolt aswell to get the subframe off, doesnt weight 2 much but to avoid excessive damage to anything get a mate to help lower it down.
