Guys, I'm hitting the proverbial brick wall at 5000rpm. Is this normal and is there an easy way to increase this?

I know the engine wants more!!!

willy std is 6500rpm, valver std is 7000rpm, but weird things do and can happen.

im sure someone (maybe northy but could be wrong) had his to 6800rpm on std limiter when warm on a 4th gear blast.

5000rpm is defo not right!

no idea what could be wrong tho...

your rev counter is at fault mate.

look out for a second hand valver one and change the mechanical part over.

And i can nudge 6800 when the oil is hot still ! Had a quick play today !

dizzy cap and rotor arm can make quite a difference. but as northy says could check your gauge on an external rev counter first or is it misfiring at 5000

I had the same problem with my valver when i had a dodgy earth. Pulled fine until it hit 5k then i basically stopped and wouldnt pull through.

Had this issue on the hybrid. The problem dissapeared after a while but i suspect it was due to my ECU being wet, as i had been driving around in the rain without a drivers side splash guard for a while..
