Anyone have any idea how much it would cost to have some new tappets fitted to an F7R engine? Mine taps like f**k and sounds like a tractor!

The engine has had 275 profile cams installed by GDI, not sure if this has any bearing on the situation?

I'm not too clued up about the innards of engines, but would like a smooth engine!

Any ideas?

This is what it sounds like at the mo:

I don't know much about the cams really as i bought the engine as it is now.

Looking at the invoice from GDI, it says 'Piper 270 cam profile', and thats all.

I'm guessing the engine shouldn't sound like that? It doesn't bother me too much, but when sat in traffic it sounds awful.

Suggestions?!

well it needs fixing..you asked for a price...I gave you one....

Those are re-grind cams...not good...increase loading on valve-train due to increased aclns....so the followers are getting a hard time basically. If they were oldish before, then they obviously havnt coped well.

Cheaper way of doing it, look out for a cheap valver head kicking about

would still have to whip the cams out to swap over if he wants to retain em....so no point really

It's a willy engine though.. lol, plus the cams help it kick out 160Bhp so i would be loosing power if i changed the head.

Ah well, not too fussed about it at the moment, doesn't sound cheap/easy to do so i'll have to grin and bear it!
