Hi All

I was just wondering on people opinions of Castrol Oil? I know there are some opinions that Magnatec does not run well in williams/valvers but wondered if people had any experience with their fully synthetic oil range? Am I right in saying the Magnatec range is all semi-synthetic? The other thing was do people think 5w 30 is right for running in the willy/valvers. Would appreciate some opinions as have never used castrol oils before. currently using millers but found place that will do oil change for just over £30 using castrol fully synth and new filter.

regards

James

yup Magnatec is a semi

its not highly regarded because for some reason it makes the engines very 'tappety'

ive experienced this myself and would never run Magnatec in an older Clio, it runs fine though in my mums G reg Nissan Sunny Estate

i presume you are talking about Castrol Edge ?........if it really is Castrol Edge then i dont know how they can do an oil and filter change for £30, the oil alone would cost that for 5L, more so at retail prices (~£50)

Thanks Brun

That is a very good point. Will double check it is but may be the older fully synthetic as believe recently they have rebranded there fully synth range.

iv used the castrol edge stuff in 2 williams'.....my findings were...it ran very high temps, low pressure..and the tappets were noisy.

this was in both williamses...wont be using it again fr sure.

shell helix ultra i find quite good.

Mobile One what I use is £23 inc VAT from Costco for 4 litres, and an oil filter is about £3.

Do it yourself bud.

Use Castrol R40 vegatable oil   ~~~ Shite oil,but has got to be the best smell coming out of a Petrol engine
I am going to run my '60's motorbikes on it ~~~ Isn't it sad what old age does to you

is that 5w 40 mate or 10w 40?

we use the 10w 40 coz our dealership has a contract with shell, means i get cheap oil :D

I found Castrol RS good in my engine, definately better than Mobil 1 but stay away from the Motorsport version.

More like Pro S 5w40. No need for a higher grade than 40 and its the low grade thats more important.

Been using this ever since I got the Hybrid engine.

castrol gtx magnatec is crap oil

i use shell helix 10w-40 seems decent for the price.

thats a good price nyk for mobil 1, usually 40 quid for 4 litres, and u need 5 for an oil and filter change on any f series engine in my epxerience.

tell me what difference you notice?

It's just as good or bad as any oil i've used. TBH i'd be better off buying cheap oil and changing it every 3k than expensive stuff every 6k..

Aye thats right, I buy 5 at a time and store them in the garage. LOL

They last me a good while. Think its about 38 quid from likes of halfords.

I've got 5l of the above to go in mine hopefully this tuesday. So we shall see what it's like. ;) My experience atm is just with Motul oil in my RT. Great stuff that is. :)
