Hunting Revs

ive had this problem in the past and i cant remember how i fixed it, if i ever did

basically, i start the car and everything is fine, then after about 30secs-1minute roughly the revs will start hunting around, dropping down then up, then down then up, etc, until it cant stabilise it and it cuts out

normally this only ever happens from cold starts, but it has occasionally done this when the car is warmed up, like last night id driven for an hour, parked up for half an hour, then on start up it did the huntin thing

it doesnt always do this by the way, tonight it did it, so i switched off, back on again and it did it again, third time lucky and throttle was very responsive so off i went

when it does this, if i give it some gas the revs go up a little then jus drop back down low and i have to give it more revs to stop it stalling

the ISCV is about 2 years old and my Lambda is about a year old at most

Leads, plugs, dizzi cap and rotor arm should be in good condition

usually hunting idle is lambda, mine was.

bit annoyed as its not that old, it might actually have some kind of warranty ill have to find out

Sounds like lambda, tried cleaning the iscv first tho? Just clean it with a bit of carb cleaner...

how low and high does it hunt ie does it drop to 700rpm and increase to over 1000rpm, and when you drive it does your car kangaroo

if it does go over 1k its not much over, its usually between 1k on the gauge and IIRC 500 (doesnt have a 0 does it ? cant remember lol)

yes if i set off driving the car does jerk around until this phase clears which takes a minute or so

get it on an a 5 gas analyser. or find a lambda sensor testing tool.

otherwise, just change it.

have u tried cleaning iscv?

not yet, i think ill do it on Monday as im off work then and ill be at the g/fs a few hours doing nothing

from what you've said it is pointing to a lambda fault

Brun buy a Bosch lambda sensor. Had a few cars in with NGK sensors that have the prob you got.

thanks Nick, i remember talking to you about this last year

i kind of took your advice by not buying a universal one but i didnt do what you said and buy the bosch, i got the NGK as it was cheaper and it was the only direct replacement i could get hold of at the time

i have 2 Bosch part numbers for the lambda can you confirm which is the correct one

One is the original fat type, other is newer compact version.
Both do the same job but the original heatshield will only fit on the fat one.

i dont have a heatshield on mine

what could cause one to fail early, the NGK one fitted now has been fine until the cold damp weather came

the car isnt overfuelling, from looking at the plugs it isnt anyway (NGK Iridiums currently fitted)

i use V-Power or Tesco 99 fuel and use a fuel cleaner every 6000 miles, usually Forte Gas Treatment

did you sort this brun? and how mutch did lamba cost you? when mine went i did not get the cutting out just got fuel econamy of a scooby

ive bought the lambda but not had any time to fit it yet, hopefully i will get it done tomorrow as ive more time then

Yeah I'd like to know also, I've got issues at the minute, lol, was looking at getting the bosch sensor.

yes it did sort it, however ive been through another 2 since !!!

the one on my car at the moment has also failed
